'Million Hoodie' Trayvon March Hits NYC

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of New York City last night, March 21, to demand justice for an unarmed black Florida teen shot dead by a self appointed neighborhood watch volunteer.

Many people at the "Million Hoodie March" event wore hooded tops
similar to the one Trayvon Martin was wearing when he was killed, the New York Daily News

"Our son is your son," the 17-year-old's mother told the
crowd. "This is not a black and white thing. This is a right and wrong

Jumaane Williams,
the city councilman arrested during last year’s West Indian Parade,
said, "I know I’m black. I reek of Brooklyn. But I'm not a criminal. I'm
a city councilman. Some of us are doctors. Some of us are President of the United States of America. Our blood is not cheap.”

On Tuesday, March 20, the Justice Department opened a federal investigation into the incident.

Facing a rising tide of criticism, Sanford city commissioners voted 3-2 on Wednesday that they had no confidence in police Chief Bill Lee. Lee took over only ten months ago when the previous chief resigned amid
an outcry over his refusal to arrest a cop’s son who beat up a black
homeless man.

Even the Republican lawmakers who wrote the Stand Your Ground law
disputed the cops, saying Zimmerman went looking for a confrontation and
should therefore be arrested.

“He has no protection under my law,” former Sen. state Durell Peaden told the Miami Herald.

The lack
of charges against George Zimmerman has sparked protests that have
echoes of the Civil Rights era, despite the progress made over the
decades, the Washington Post

"This sounds like a narrative out of the 1950s, where yet
another black man gets randomly killed, and the institutions in society
that are supposed to respond, don’t respond accordingly," author Nathan
McCall says. "They blame the victim."

Zimmerman has fled his home and is in hiding after receiving death
threats. The Sanford Police had returned his 9mm gun and his weapons
permit HAS NOT been revoked.

    Don't believe every damn conservative smear e-mail you get.
    According to the Medical Examiner's report Trayvon was 5'11'' & weighed a 158 lbs.

    That IS NOT photo of Trayvon. Its a rapper named Jayceon Terrell Taylor.

    For you to actually believe the entire media is conspiring to show only 5 year old photos of Trayvon Martin is just f#cking stupid.
  • DavidK Nick Name 2012/06/18 17:05:51
    face it......If Obama wasn't President, this wouldn't have been an issue.

    So you actually think the entire media is involved in a conspiracy AND a BLACK President is part of the REAL reason the dead 17 yr old became "an issue"?

    You're not only racist, you're stupid. And maybe mentally ill. That really is some full on crazy sh!t.

    EVERY single time I've been in a Walgreens the place is full of black teenagers screaming 'Trayvon Martin' while they're stealing tea and skittles. Very common thing, happens every day.
    CVS is always full of skin head neo-nazis bitching about the lack of real German beer.

    O.K. here’s the deal. If Mr. Zimmerman murdered Trayvon Martin then he should pay with his life. End of debate. Just like it should be for anyone else! Race being used as a motive of the crime (remember the prosecution doesn’t have to prove motive or intent as an element of the crime in order to prove guilt) in order to try to achieve a conviction or more severe punishment. Is no more excusable than using race as a defense as to why someone shouldn’t be found guilty or as a reason to lessen a punishment once and if guilt is established. Remember what happened to Reginald Oliver Denny who marched for him?

    Where's all the outrage for this.

    By the way, the man killed was white.

    The difference being, these kids were arrested and charged for a crime as soon as they were caught.

    Mr. Zimmerman is still walking free.

    If you don't or can't understand that, there is nothing more to discuss.

    You know, think about this, if George Zimmerman would have minded his own business that night, none of this would have happened. It doesn't matter what the kid looked like, how tall he was, etc. etc., he lived in that complex, was allowed to be there and had done nothing wrong.
  • DavidK gfreema... 2012/06/18 16:46:27
    yea, well its one less loser on the streets now, isn't it! No great loss to society.

    So, you advocate the killing of people based on how you feel about them? Nice talking with you, Adolf.

    Yes, my 'sick libtard interpretation', is saying that you have a mental disorder. You seem to think that the picture the media ran vs. what the kid actually looks like justifies his killing. You can't fathom what it means if Mr. Zimmerman just minds his own business that night. Probably because you can't fathom minding your own business. In simple terms, you are a Sociopath, possibly with an anxiety disorder.

    I posted this thing back in March. I don't know why SH is 'rotating' out again.
    Since then Zimmerman, in my mind, has acted as though he is guilty.
    Lying to a judge and getting your bail revoked wouldn't seem like the actions of an innocent man.
  • Bill Nick Name 2012/06/20 12:12:53
    He just wanted to keep the money and get support from the state. That can't be conflated with murder/shooting.

    One doesn't prove the other, BUT, lying to your judge to hide money to try to keep your bail low for your murder charge - and then your bail gets revoked when the lie doesn't work.
    Those things are intertwined.
  • Bill Nick Name 2012/06/20 14:50:35 (edited)
    {One doesn't prove the other,}
    Right. That was my point.

    {Those things are intertwined.}
    Yeah, I can see that. Lie. Revocation. I get it. However, your first point was...

    {Since then Zimmerman, in my mind, has acted as though he is guilty.}
    Guilty of what? Greed, trying to keep his money or murder?

    {Lying to a judge and getting your bail revoked wouldn't seem like the actions of an innocent man.}
    Revocation of bail on something completely different doesn't prove his lack of innocence on the other charge.

    That's all I was saying. One doesn't prove the other.

    Why did you post this video?
    This video has nothing to do with Martin's killing. There are no similarities.
  • zbacku Nick Name 2012/03/22 15:28:53
    Because, if you haven't heard, Martin's killing is being touted as being a 'hate crime'.
    You never hear the same when a black man kills a whitey.
    Al Sharpton never shows up to demand a demonstration.
  • Nick Name zbacku 2012/03/22 15:33:13 (edited)
    Nick Name
    Thats what you got out of that video?
    You could just as easily got out of it that if a black teenager kills a white guy - they get arrested immediately.
    Why didn't that point register?
  • Bill Nick Name 2012/06/20 12:15:30
    It's more complicated than that. "Stand your ground" is involved and other issues (911 call, being a security man in the complex, etc.) The punks in the video were not claiming that the old guy was attacking them.
