Michigan removes 30,000 College Students from its Food Stamps Program (aka Bridge Program)

On 8 August 2011 .. at least 30,000 COLLEGE Students in the State of Michigan

Were FORMALLY Notified that the Bridge Program
(Michigan's Food Stamp Program)
Benefits will be TERMINATED.

Interestingly enough, these students are in College ..
Paying for classes, room/board ..
Receiving Financial Aid (for that purpose) ..

So .. the question is .. why Food Stamps?

SOME were obviously using the Food Stamp (Bridge Card) properly (for food aid)

But there were just too many using these Bridge Cards for ..
-- Cigarettes, Tobacco Products
-- Beer, Wine, Alcohol (for Parties)
-- Junk Food
-- Selling the Benefits for Illegal Substances
-- Just about ANYTHING except basic healthy food ...

There those pointing out that these College Students are
-- NOT starving (or on the street)
-- They are NOT fighting to basically Survive

-- that, plain and simple .. this was a way to /game the system/ that was passed along ..
by Friends on Campus .. in Campus Newspapers too
(seriously -- yes, there were articles encouraging the students to apply for the benefits cards)

Scamming the food stamp program has existed almost as long as the program itself. It is not just college students who use the program improperly.

This type of fraud is systemic and nationwide.
It is good to see even a miniscule amount of fraud eliminated.
It is basically encouraged to defraud the "system" at so many schools.

I'd like to know why taxpayers were paying for college kids to eat? If you can't afford it then I think you shouldn't be going to college. Insanity! I am glad they took it away.

Exactly why we owe so much money. I don't get any of it so I don't see why I would have to pay for any of it. And the government is not doing it out of the kindness of their hearts, they don't have any! It's to keep the people needy and voting for them and wanting more government. It's a form of brainwashing if you will.

You are an adorable kid! Love the long hair, I'm so sick of shaved heads. But now I am going to have to disagree with the video I chose to watch, about the the London riots. It's not true, it isn't the people doing the violence, it's law enforcement, to make it look like the protesters did it. I just read a piece on that the other day from someone who knows. They are way overloaded with cops there. I will try to find it and post it to you. Just like in 2008 at the GOP convention, cops dressed up as the protesters and started all kinds of trouble. Do not be fooled, that way they get to arrest everyone and throw tear gas and what not. It's all part of their plan. This is happening in every country. It all has to do with ushering in the New World order. Never ever listen to mainstream media, it's all propoganda.

One dupicate program down ..too bad their are probably hundreds to go to be done with this crap. BUT IT CAN AND BETTER BE DONE or the country will never be able to get out of debt.

In New York, you are not allowed to buy beer & cigarettes. So instead of cutting kids off that really need it. Just amend the law restricting what they can purchase. But we all know what the real reason is. Michigan is strapped for cash.

I don't believe you are allowed to buy them in Mich either Evidently the stores were just looking the other way, or they were selling Food stamps iexchange for beer and Cigs. Mich has always had an extremely high rate of Welfare Recipients. About time they start cutting somewhere. The new Gov. is trying to straighten out the Screw-ups of Granholme.

But they are not using them for food. They are selling them for beer, cigaretts, and drugs. Do you really think we should be supporting their habits? Granted, if Mich would put all Welfare recipients to work, that would be great, but, when Obama extended the Unemployment checks, it stopped anybody from even looking for work. That is what hand-outs do. They make people lazy and dependent on the Govt. and guarantees votes.

I agree. We should not be supporting the Illegals at all. We should be sending them back home. But we still should not be sending free money to kids to support their habits. The state of Mich is badly in debt because of the mishandling of funds by the previous Gov. Dem, BTW. This new Governor is just trying to get them back in the red.

My choice is to end a huge percentage of assistance to all but the truly downtrodden. Non citizens need not apply.
Drug testing and limitations of the use of taxpayer funds needs to be a top priority of our leaders.

Yeah most states have laws against the purchases listed but where there is a will, there is a way. They are aware they are breaking the law, they don't care, it's not their hard earned cash.

Michigan does not have that many Illegals. If each state would start enacting laws to get them ALL off the Welfare system. Then I don't believe we would have such a problem with Illegals as we have. Take their freebies away, they will probably go home.

I think they should consider getting a job before they ask for a handout.
Many schools are actively seeking foreign students for programs that American students are exempted from participating. All on a free ride.
