Great idea, but couldn't we just stop the wars?

Sure when people stop wanting wars. How do we convince people that war is no good?

How 'bout we stop teaching it to kids in school. "War IS bad, but at least it's good for the economy."

Just tell the truth. Most people aren't aware that there were more American casualties at the Battle of Antietam than in all the other wars combined. Loss of friends, family members, property and rights are the true "benefits" of war for the masses. Politicians and bankers, on the other hand, clean up.

Anything that can be done to show how much really appreciate the troops is a great ideal, except if you are a republican and it domes from the democratic party.

They will help them get settled back home, find jobs, finish or start their educations, and provide counseling for various maladies like PTSD.

We didn't have anything like that after Vietnam, and I wish we had. We eventually got the GI Bill, which helped many pay for their education and buy homes, and I took advantage of both features. But PTSD was unheard of at the time, and it took forever for men afflicted with Agent Orange to receive treatment from the VA.

Really there are enough social workers out there that done give a flip about their jobs. They are just in the office for a pay check. So why train more to do the same thing. Just put a fire under the ones already working. Make them do their jobs.

Different social workers. These will be dedicated to the returning service members. You don't think they have done enough to earn it?

My husbhand is a service member. I know what they are talking about. I have been to the VA and talked to the Social Workers there with my husband. And guess what they are just as lazy as all the other Socail Workers. My hasband is being med boarding for PTSD and he hurt his back in Iraq. Last time we went up there and we were asking questions. The lady acted like she could careless. Everytime we asked a question she rolled her eyes and she said she would get back to us. That was 5 months ago and she still has not answered our questions. And I know alot of other Soliders that have had the same complaint.

Give the new program a chance. It looks as if people like yourself have been making their opinions known in the White House. Good luck.

Probably good. It should be a decision for the VA to make. If they say it's needed, it probably needed. If they recommended it and Obama supported the decision instead of shooting it down, he can reasonably take some credit for the initiative. That sounds like a big number. But there are a lot of vets. Hard to say.

The very idea there are 650,000 social workers in the U.S. disturbs me. Like every other person I meet on any given day must be one, ugggh... Can't people find more productive, meaningful work? I don't know, maybe Urban Planner? lol...

This is a great idea and not the first one she has come up with. This is not simply a ploy to make people like the President more but reflects her genuine concern for returning vets. And boy do they need it.

If it was being done out of the concern and respect veterans deserve, it would have been implemented already instead of making a campaign ploy out of it and figureheading Michelle on top of it.

(Yes I am one, and yes I've seen changes come down the pipe as the President or his wife got behind them.)

It's not "Hype" if they do as they say.

    smh @ u.

Okay,.. WHEN would it have been implimented and WHY is it bad when she gets behind the idea and pushes?

    SIGH.
You really don't know what her concerns are, you would just like to put the worst on her. I imagine that too many are incapable of giving her the benifit since they can't find any real mud on her.
