First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden were grand marshals at today’s NASCAR season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, appearing as part of their charitable campaign to support military veterans and their families.
But their benign, bipartisan cause wasn’t enough to prevent public fallout from the nation’s polarized political climate as they were introduced before the crowd.
ESPN video from the event documented loud boos from some in the stands as the announcer named Obama and Biden, seconds before they delivered the “most famous words in motorsports,” telling drivers to start their engines.
The pair — who co-chair the Joining Forces initiative — stood beside retired Army Sgt. Andrew Barry and his family. Barry was wounded in action in Iraq and Afghanistan, retired from the military in 2009 and now volunteers at an Orlando veterans center, the announcer said. He received resounding applause.
A source traveling with the first lady downplayed the incident, telling ABC News there was no discernible booing during the “loud chaotic program with jets flying over and tons of noise.”
The Associated Press reported that the two women received a standing ovation at the pre-race meeting with drivers, during which Obama said NASCAR was “amazing in terms of its support, not just today but every day, for military families.”
Before the race, the first lady addressed a barbeque for military families that NASCAR had invited to the event.
“Everyone around the country is focused on you. And this isn’t just an effort today,” she said. “ Jill and I through Joining Forces, we want to make this a part of the dialogue in this country forever. Whether Jill or I are here or not, whether this administration is here or not, this is about the way we want this country to talk about our troops, veterans and military families forever. We want you to feel that appreciation and that gratitude so that you know your sacrifice is not in vain.”
The negative reaction from fans was first reported by Mediaite.

A. Every person at that track PAID TO BE THERE! They paid for the right to cheer or boo whoever or whatever they wanted to.
B. When people aren't getting favors and kickbacks from your husband(s) administration, they will ACTUALLY show and tell you how they REALLY feel.
C. Your trying to be the face of an admistration that is screwing over most of the people in that crowd.... Regardless of why you are there, your message becomes unimportant BECAUSE of what you represent.
THAT'S WHAT AMERICA IS ALL ABOUT.... WE KNOW YOU HATE IT, BUT IT'S STILL THERE RIGHT IN YOUR FACE, AND YOU OBVIOUSLY DON'T LIKE IT.
And why would a true (military) hero be keeping company with such an anti-American?
insurance, as they go off to fight wars, because "you know, they volunteer to do this stuff."
He is scrambling doing anything he can think of to get the vet and conservative vote. He is not fooling anyone with this pretend caring for our country and Americans. In spite of what he said, he doesn't want to be thrown out of office and hopefully that is exactly what will happen in 2012.
This entire event and the 'Country Western' Music was another PHOTO OP.. trying to CON the American People into thinking that her and BO give a Damn about our soldiers and the Middle Class.
WAKE UP AMERICA and put her and her Gutter Trash Husband back into the Chicago Political Mob.
Where, exactly, is the support for the military? A NASCAR appearance just doesn't do it.
Then why don't you learn to Google.... Many business's and corporations have joined the FLOTUS in her Joining Forces Initiative...

And what is Obama saying now? He's saying that if Congress tries to eliminate the automatic cuts, he'll veto it. Seems to me that Congress hasn't agreed to anything... Obama is forcing it.
So much for support of the military.

He should veto it if Congress tries to block or eliminate the automatic cuts......
You would rather leave the nation open to a new 9-11 attack in order to win some political points?
Why not cut something BESIDES the military...; like, oh, the EPA, for instance? Or the Department of Education. Or the Department of Labor. Or the Department of Energy. Why should the cuts be in the military?
And THAT is why Obama's wife was booed. She doesn't support the military any more than her husband does.
Which means what, exactly, to this conversation. The experts in the field are saying that the cuts proposed to Defense spending are unsustainable and will weaken our military past the point of being able to defend the nation. How does the fact that we spend more than anyone else does on military change that fact? Assuming it is even true at all, which I have no evidence of.
DUH...
Really?
