How many more mass shootings by young troubled men do we have to endure? The 2nd amendment is sacred and has been since the founding of the country, but is it time to put some safeguards in place so school kids and movie goers and college students aren't subjected to homicidal maniacs shooting them with all too available guns? Is it time to reform gun control laws?

HUFFINGTONPOST.COM reports:
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg called on President Barack Obama and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney Friday to detail their views to improve gun control in wake of the mass shooting at an Aurora, Colorado movie theater that left at least 12 dead and scores wounded. The suspected gunman, now identified as 24-year-old James Holmes, opened fire during a premier of "The Dark Knight Rises."

That time passed a while ago. It is far too late.

Put it this way...if (and I literally just mean IF) America had some sort of big downfall or crash and everyone went a bit crazy...well they all have guns. It would be a very unwholesome place to be. However it is too late to prevent that. Most people have guns now. Restricting new people from trying to protect themselves does nothing.

Maybe one should ask the question, why was no one else at the theater armed, so to stop this mad man?

No one in the theater had a gun because guns are not allowed in the theater~ there are signs in the lobby~ and LAW ABIDING CITIZENS usually follow the rules~~ Same thing has happened many times in other shootings @ a restaurant in Texas~@ Ft Hood~~ Columbine etc~ guns are not permitted in most businesses, colleges and schools~

And that is a sad thing...

The anti-gun crowd has SO stigmatized guns as being tools of crime and murder that businesses feel the need to ban them all together... which only leaves them in danger. Because the one who comes in to REALLY rob or massacre your place is NOT gonna follow that useless little sign.

Guns, when owned by sane people, are for defense and protection.

There has been aprox 20,000 laws on guns in the law books in this country---- how about enforcing some of them instead of making more?!

or maybe just stop preventing law abiding citizens from protecting themselves when someone goes wacko? Remember---guns dont kill people---- people kill people.
Plus any real wacko can do way more damage with a car than anybody can with a rifle.

Bloomberg should just stfu, and stick his head back up in his filthy rich "body guard protected" ass.

Absolutely! We should have President Obama announce immediately that he is going to pick up all of our guns and store them in Washington, D.C. at the White House and at Mayor Bloomberg's townhouse in NYC! LOL ! Governor Romney will not even have to campaign any more in order to secure a landslide victory!

False. I am tired of presenting the abundant statistics that show countries with strict gun laws to have much lower per-capita killings and maiming by bullets than the US.

I will retract this statement if you can show me that Somaia has fewer crimes because of easy access to guns, or if you can show me that Mexico had fewer homicides because of bullets before the proliferation of guns made possible by Americans selling them at gun shows.

Yes, it's time to remove gun restrictions so every red blooded American is responsible for his or her safety, obviously law enforcement can't protect citizens from criminals with guns. Everyone should be armed. How sad that a foolish theater owner declares itself a gun free zone (if that's true) and a armed criminal has free run of the building to indulge in premeditated murder. 911 just can't respond fast enough to help an un-armed citizen facing death from criminals with guns God bless those un-armed, injured citizens and their families.

If some of the theater goers who hold carry permits had been allowed to bring their guns, they might have been able to stop Holmes before he killed as many people as he did.

THANK YOU!!!!!! it doesnt matter if he was carrying body armor or not. body armor will only protect you for so many rounds. after that it becomes useless. all it would have took was some movie goer to have had their conceiled permit and to have unloaded on Holmes. and in all honesty dont know about anyone else but i personally believe if im gonna go down i might as well go down with a fight

The ATF is insane about monitoring the purchase of firearms as well as the restriction of certain weapons for this very reason. theyve set forth a cool off period for the purchase of firearms to prevent spur of the moment homicides, they require firearms purchased to be registered and run background checks on the gun owners and does anyone here even realize how difficult it is to legally obtain automatic weapons and the permits you have to get before even thinking about making these purchases. you keep talking about setting laws to prevent criminals from committing crimes but really just stop and ask yourself. what criminal is going to follow the rules? where theres a will theres a way and sadly bad people take advantage of this. my personal opinion is that the best precaution one can take is to capitalize on and make use of our second ammendmet. we have the right to own and carry a gun with the right permits. if it means we have a chance to protect ourselfs and those we care about from lunatics like this then why dont we?

Possession of a weapon for home and self defense should always be a right. However, not all people need all weapons. The ability to purchase body armor, large quantities of ammunition, and automatic weapons should be regulated and scrutinized. In the US, it's easier to buy a gun than to get a driver's license. That is a sad fact.

The sad fact is our gov't kills more people between our own troops sent to defend poppy fields in Afghanistan, the third world children roasted in the name of oil profits, and selling arms to Mexico to start a border wall (Check out Fast and Furious, Obama caught red-handed).

Quote: (Check out Fast and Furious, Obama caught red-handed).

Each side of the government works for their own interest and if things they say resonate with the thinking of the party they supposedly represent, people are fools to believe them. They may sometimes fall in line with their party and it's supporters but mostly the better share of them fall in line with their own best interest.

We have had reasonable men of both left and right persuasions outside the mainstream but people are brainwashed puppets who are manipulated and can not see it.

Not so these gun owners are your next door neighbor the 69 year old lady walking down the street, the young men standing on the comer The retired vet. They are the people you meet everyday. Those you work with sit next to you in a restaurant or on a train. They are the people of this country that make it great and they obey the laws, But attack them an you will have hell to pay.
