How many more mass shootings by young troubled men do we have to endure? The 2nd amendment is sacred and has been since the founding of the country, but is it time to put some safeguards in place so school kids and movie goers and college students aren't subjected to homicidal maniacs shooting them with all too available guns? Is it time to reform gun control laws?
HUFFINGTONPOST.COM reports:

HUFFINGTONPOST.COM reports:
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg called on President Barack Obama and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney Friday to detail their views to improve gun control in wake of the mass shooting at an Aurora, Colorado movie theater that left at least 12 dead and scores wounded. The suspected gunman, now identified as 24-year-old James Holmes, opened fire during a premier of "The Dark Knight Rises."

Other+84It's always time for gun control........Proper breathing, proper sight picture and alignment, proper trigger pull.. You know. Gun Control!

So the vast majority of law-abiding gun owners, already squashed under a ponderous chain of laws and regulations, should suffer further, stricter edicts, because of a handful of nuts who may or may not act on their nuttiness? That's liberal "justice" for you; punish the innocent along with the guilty.
People keep saying "We need tougher background checks, so stuff like this won't happen!" That's all as well as it is, but it wouldn't have mattered in this case, because the nutjob had no prior record that would have prevented him from buying the guns and other toys. And that's often the way it is In many, if not most, cases like this one. Nobody saw it coming.
Making more laws doesn't help. The problem with criminals is, they don't obey the law. That's why they're criminals.
Yes, thousands; and most, if not all, of them are pointless political maneuvering and unconstititutional.
Guns are banned in some American cities; that is unconstitutional. And those cities have among the highest gun crime rates anywhere, because the innocent, law-abiding people are forced to give up their protection. The criminals aren't, because the funny thing abuot criminals is, they don't obey the law.
Restricting people's access to guns in an effort to reduce violent crime is like trying to reduce obese people's access to junk food in an effort to reduce the obesity epidemic, it doesn't work. It won't work. All reforming gun laws will do is take them out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, thus reducing their ability to protect themselves from those who obtain them illegally, and those that obtain them illegally will continue to do so, it won't stop them in the least.
Don't bother to respond. You already have your talking points. I expect no original thinking.
As a student of history, events such as this are modern phenomena, they did not occur prior to about the 1970s (post Gun Control Act of 1968.)
What has occurred? I see several things.
Decay of morality, we teach birth control in school, rather than concepts of right and wrong.
Educators aren't allowed to use corporal punishment in schools.
We've closed mental hospitals and facilities
Parents have raised children with a sense of entitlement and no consequences.
This is NOT about the implement of carnage. My daughter and son are avid hunters and trap shooters, they respect WHAT a gun can do. We do not take that respect lightly.
Kids like these crazies that go on a mass casualty game, see the world as a video game.
The safe guards that need to be restored to our school is ability for educators to put a butt thumping on these brats in Kindergarten before they become the next Dylan Klebold or Eric Harris, AND PARENTS need to take responsibility and DISCIPLINE their brats.
Most of us older then 50 knew what the belt across the ass feels like, and I tend to think if more parents to...

Most of us older then 50 knew what the belt across the ass feels like, and I tend to think if more parents took their responsibility seriously we'd have less brats sitting in front of a 1st person shooter game on a practice run for the next event. Instead these kids should be riding bikes, playing tag, ditchum, hide and seek.
Sadly Politicians in and attempt to exercise more control, attempt to make hay out of these heinous events.
I believe if Theatres, Schools, and other "gun free zones" were eliminated, you would see less crime and likely a mass casualty situation would be abated before it got out of hand.
Deterrence of crime occurs in not knowing if someone will shoot back.
I believe "Gun Free Zones" Should be outlawed.
Goodle firearms and (JAMA OR CDC) and you will see just how lethal firearms are, especially to teens.
Also, would not Somalia or Mexico be the safest countries in the world since firearms became widely available in those countries?
This guy purchased the guns properly, I agree the ammo that he used should not be readibly available.
The thing I have learned throughout all my travels domestic and international is that if someone wants a gun they will find a way to get it.
I agree with the israel example, in the southwest most people have a gun in the house and in most of the area I have visited and lived crime is not as bad as the media make it out to be.
Again, we need to enforce the laws we have
