A Mexican beauty queen is being stripped of her title, and the opportunity to compete in the Miss World pageant, all because she gained six pounds.
19-year-old Cynthia de la Vega came in second place in the Nuestra Belleza Mexico competition last September. In Mexico, the first-place winner goes on to represent her country in the Miss Universe pageant, while the runner-up competes in Miss World.
De la Vega was in the process of preparing for the November pageant, when the organizers of Nuestra Belleza Mexico took away her crown and decided to send Gabriela Palacio in her place. De la Vega claims this happened because they were unhappy about the small amount of weight she had gained since last September.
According to Lupita Jones, the director of Nuestra Belleza Mexico, de la Vega did not lose her title because she gained weight. She said it was due to "a lack of dedication and discipline" and because she "did not comply with the recommendations and goal agreed upon for her preparation."
However, de la Vega disputed these claims and said, "I always attended all of my classes and I did all of my activities. I never disrespected any teachers." She went on to explain that the pageant organizers demanded that she lose weight, but did not provide her with the necessary tools, such as a nutritionist.
"I feel healthy enough to represent my country, and I think this is an injustice," said de la Vega. "They took away the crown that I earned. That is mine."
What do you think? Was the decision to revoke de la Vega's title over a small weight gain fair or foul?

Skinny Girl
I wish you could see
That you don't need to be thin
To be in
Sexy is not bone and skin
Eating is not a sin
You don't have to be a skinny girl
To fit into our world
People will accept you either way
They'll want you to stay
I wish you would go to the mirror
And look at yourself in a new way
I wish you would say I am beautiful
In my own wonderful way
So forget what the haters say
How they feel doesn't matter anyway
Life is too short
And you can't waste another day
Caring about what they say
I just wish to add that at 19 the girl is still growing up a bit and the six pounds may be the result.
