MEDICAL COMPANY BLAMES ‘OBAMACARE’ FOR MASSIVE LAYOFFS

doofiegirl BTO-t- BCRA-F ~PWCM~ 2013/02/03 16:13:03

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (CBSDC) — A medical company is blaming President Obama’s health care law for the layoffs of nearly 100 people.
Smith & Nephew says a 2.3 percent excise tax on medical devices in the “Obamacare” law caused the layoffs in the Memphis and Andover, Mass., offices.

“The nearly $30 billion tax on medical devices that took effect Jan. 1, 2013, has impacted a number of companies across the U.S.,” the company said in a statement to WHBQ-TV.

OBAMACARE vs. BPO industry in 2014? The U.S. healthcare reform (“Obama Care” or the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”) is intended to pressure large and small employers through force and taxation. Enacted in July 2010, the end result will show North American companies deciding to send customer support, sales, lead generation and appointment setting jobs offshore to stay competitive or risk going out of business. Many business owners will hire a dedicated bilingual employee nearshore who is 100% qualified for their project. Financially speaking, ESL call center employees in Costa Rica are as effective as transitional in-house staff for half of the cost. This proven strategy will give small to medium sized companies the option to scale up their BPO staff without getting caught in the Obamacare challenge in 2014.

There is a good bit of BS in this article.

I was a distributor for medical equipment....the products I sold went to professionals, hospitals, clinics...nothing for the public.

A 2.3% tax is about 1/3 of the annual price increases that were passed on to dealers and consumers every year. 7% was the low side of average....

Smith and Nephew is an Orthopedic manufacturer of prosthetic reconstruction devices and and other items.... http://www.smith-nephew.com/ They have 11,000 employees and a presence in 90 countries.... Their stock price is up and so is the sales volume of the stock.

The 2.3% tax excuse is a red herring. More than likely they are moving jobs out of the US, or are just getting rid of employees to maximize profits.....

The real sad thing about the Health Care Act.... None of them actually read it. Most have NO clue what all is in it. The thing is so big and the majority of it really isn't even about Health Care.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?...

They had no idea what was in it... yet they passed this bill.

I just got done with my Taxes for 2012. We use H&R; Block, have for many years, the last question my Tax Lady (Used the same Lady for the past 13 years) asks me? Do you have Health Care. My children and my wife do have private health care, but I do not. In the past 10 years I've been to the doctor 3 times. Cost me all of the $225.00 including the Prescriptions. Why in the hell do I need it? I have enough money in the bank or stocks etc that if something were to come up that was not related to being a Fire Fighter or a Car Wreck etc where other insurance will cover it... I don't need private insurance. You know what it will cost me next year (2013 taxes), as this IS a tax, if I do not have private Insurance $300.00. Know what it will cost me the following year (2014 taxes)? $850.00. So in two years I will pay $1150.00 for something I will NEVER use. Oh wait, just because I pay the TAX in 2014 for the 2013 taxes, I don't get health care yet. I have to wait until 2015 to get it.

You ain't seen nuthin' yet! I had a pinched spinal cord in Mar., 2011. For the rest of that year, and all thru 2012, I had at PT at Least tree times a week--every week. After I was sent to rehab, I had it once a day for two and a half mos.In Dec.2012, my Dr. ordered another 3 mos. On Jan.1, 2013, I was told Medicare no longer paid for more than 12 visits for the whole 12 ms! No more PT, still can't walk, and I'm mad as heck! The only good thing I can see is that it hit the liberals blindside! It affects them too!I put up an article the other day telling the site that by 2015, I think it was that 'free healthcare' insurance for a family of 4 , is going to cost the family 20,000.00. And, they will fine you if you don't have it!

If I didn't have a family, I'd just sell all my stuff... quit my job and "live" off the Government. Let someone else work for me... That is what it is coming down too. I see it even in my small little town. Professional Couch Potato is actually a Job Title.

    Gets old quickly.

The problem can't be solved by that means. My bones are getting thicker due to arthritis, and I need More back surgery to scrape them down. I Won't have the surgery unless I can do the necessary PT afterwards. Vicious circle. I won't be able to walk either way!Chiropractor won't scrape the bone!

I have a limited supply of equipment here. By limited, I mean not as good as in rehab! I do my PT every day, but it is taking longer because the things I use are not as great I have a TENS unit, but it is just a massager, really! Very low wattage, and limited range of actions. It does help, tho.

I used to have a TENS and decided if I was in pain I wanted to know about it. It was an upper back and neck injury from a car accident. PT only made me dizzy with little results. Started with a good osteopath and, altho I still experience some problems and pain on occasion, between yoga, walking, massage and chiropractic, I have better health. Try a full body massage every 2 weeks. Do you do hot salts soaks?
I like Linda Page for that....
Here’s how to take the arthritis bath:

Make a tea of elder flowers, peppermint and yarrow. Drink as hot as possible before the bath. Then pour about 3 pounds of Epsom salts or enough Dead Sea salts for 1 bath into very hot bath water. Rub arthritic joints with a stiff brush in the water for 5 to 10 minutes; try to stay in the bath for 15 to 25 minutes. On emerging, do not dry yourself. Wrap up immediately in a clean sheet and go straight to bed, covering yourself with several blankets. The osmotic pressure of the Epsom salt solution absorbed by the sheet will draw off heavy perspiration. Your mattress should be protected with a sheet of plastic. The following morning the sheet will be stained with wastes excreted through your skin - sometimes the color of egg yolk. (This is a strong detox procedure and it happens relatively quickly. Take care if you have a weak heart or high blood pressure.)

Improvement after an arthritic sweat bath experience is notable. Repeat the bath once every two weeks until the sheet is no longer stained, a sign that the body is well cleansed. Follow up with a Hot Seaweed Bath to continue releasing toxins. Drink pure water throughout the procedure to prevent dehydration and loss of body salts.

I have a bowl of ice water next to the bed that I soak a washcloth in and put over my eyes while wrapped up.

This health tax law forcing Americans to pay for the inadequate obamacare that the POTUS and the other 535 members and thousands of staff did not want for themselves.

This should be the worst year for our health care needsand the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs nationwide.

Anyone who didn't know this was coming did NOT read the law. Some people did try to tell you. You all know who you are.

I work in the medical industry. I see major changes happening every single day and it is not all bad but mostly. I no longer see my doctor, I see a PA and it costs the same. I didn't have insurance for 2 years. I recently got it again and I can barely make ends meet.
Anyway, I thought Smith and Nephew was a Pharmaceuticals corp but I was wrong. It's more of a sports injury and joint replacement clinic. Even so, that 100 jobs is the first stones in an avalanche of unemployed in healthcare. Some say it will be trimming the fat others will say they are gutting the industry. I say as a lowly caregiver, I have watched everyone from the local home oxygen delivery guy, to doctors, to nursing homes and hospitals bill Medicare fraudulently. Nursing homes the worst. What happens when you report it? nothing if it's Medicare. If it's Medicaid though look out for swat teams. The medical industry dug this hole and it got deeper through each administration since the early 70s. Obama's approach is a political one and it will suck. Personally, I think it's a law enforcement issue. Too much picking of the money tree which is Medicare.
