McCain: I Won't Work With Dems - Is This the Way to Immigration Reform?

Arizona Senator John McCain made a name for himself in Congress by bucking the Republican Party line when he believed it served the greater good. He would famously "reach across the aisle" to work with Democrats and hammer out bipartisan legislation, like immigration reform.

But the maverick of the Senate has been singing a different tune since his 2008 presidential loss and subsequent tough re-election bid. This time, he says, he’s sticking to his side of the aisle.

As reported by Think Progress, Sen. McCain appeared on an Arizona radio program and assured a caller that he has no interest in bipartisanship:

CALLER: I would like to ask Sen. McCain if he will make a promise on the air now that if we reelect him, he will not reach across the aisle, especially with Lindsey Graham, for comprehensive immigration reform. Will you not do that for the time you're in office?

MCCAIN: Yes ma'am. ... I am promising that I will try to address the issue of immigration in a way that is best for the United States of America.

Listen to the call below:

Is Ruling Out Bipartisanship the Way to Immigration Reform?

Funny, what happened to the McCain / Kennedy bill of a few months ago?? Guess it died with Mr. Kennedy, as did McCain's "Maverick" image....now, whichever way the wind blows.....

McCain playing hardball on immigration? What's that mean? No longer will he be perched on the border to say "Hello and welcome to WalMart" as each and every busload of "undocumented voters" arrives?

Sorry, but he's damaged goods. Can't take him seriously at all.

John McCain has gone from an American Hero, to an American Senator, to a selling his soul to get the nod for the Republican Party Presidential nomination, to a common politician who will say and do anything to stay in office.

The man who I thought should have been President in 2000, is the shell of that man today. It is truly sad to see him bury his integrity to stay in office.

I'm all for both parties working together, but the fact is, on this issue, it's nearly impossible. Dems want comprehensive reform, which will include some type of amnesty. Republicans don't want that, and we need a different solution.

As far as McCain goes, he's doing this because he's afraid of losing his seat in the mid-terms. Period. He's never had a tough immigration stance before this. I voted for McCain in '08, only because I didn't want Obama. He was definitely not my first choice.

McCain should retire. This clip is just another example of how he is committed to not doing his job. In the last 18 months he has opposed any legislation proposed by a democrat, even if it was for policies that he supported before, and even on issues where there is agreement across the board.

TRUE reform would be to uphold and enforce the law by getting rid of the illegals. Not give them amnesty or anything else, except stiff fines and deportation.

The only reason why McCain stopped siding with Democrats on this is because he is facing stiff opposition by anti-illegals opponent Haywood, who supports what the overwhelming majority of voters want.

We did get some immigration bill passed last week and that is a start, but some people are against sending money and more boots on the ground. I think it can only help stop the flow and put money into the local economy down there, Once this is implemented, maybe the republicans can work with the democrats to do something about those here illegally all ready. One can only hope.

I'm getting fed up, too. He's so middle-of-the-road, non-committal and liberal-leaning most of the time. Now that he's facing an uphill battle in the election, he's all of a sudden turned into a hardline conservative? Uh-huh . . .

Short Answer, McCain is a liar and has not changed his ways. Anyone stupid enough to buy off on his "I won't work with DEMS" are total idiots. And anyone who votes for him are traitors to the Constitution, America and Arizona.

Immigration reform is as follows; anyone who came here illigally must leave immediately, the border must be secured by means of fencing and machine guns if necessary. I live in Arizona and this illegal alien situation is no laughing matter.

The DEMS want to give AMNESTY to increase their voting base. Those who leech off workers will vote for DEMS and the Socialist way of life. McCain will further obamas agenda if given the chance.

The "traitors to the Constitution" would be all those who voted for Obama. And the immigration problem, particularly in beautiful Arizona, has gotten much, much worse under Obama and his Merry Band Of Do-Nothing Thugs. They talk a lot and do nothing.

The Democrats are not interested in cleaning up the immigration mess. There is NO evidence to support any claim otherwise. The Republicans have done plenty to muck it up as well, but clearly the Dems want to take complete advantage of the current mess to shore up their shrinking constituency.

You know what would be effective in terms of securing the border? A shoot-to-kill policy. Many (most) countries have such a policy and should. I guarantee that two or three days after the shoot-to-kill policy goes into effect, the problems at the border will disappear. Then the only issue will be rounding up the illegals already here and carting them back to where they belong.

Both parties should try to work together to solve all problems, but since Grumpy Grampy Ex- Maverick McCain is faced with the prospect of losing his job, he'll promise,or say anything that he thinks will appeal to the disgruntled citizens of his state! If they believe him,and re-elect him,I have some ocean front property in Kansas to sell them!In my opinion, the voters of Arizona should have sent him packing long ago! Anything beyond two terms for a senator is too much,in my opinion!
