I am shocked. They seem to encourage that kind of behavior. Maybe they just took him off the air and promoted him!

But NBC should have done it the very same day he opened his sewer mouth. But NBC did not say they fired him or recommend he resign. All they had the guts to say was that he chose to resign. As far as I am concerned he, committed a racial hate crime and should be in jail, or Palin should sue him for every dime he has.

Was this Martin Bashir Assad? He was probably fired for excessive flatulence.

MSNBC has hateful rhetoric for lunch. I'm surprised they didn't just have all thier other hosts have shows explaining that George Bush made his say it.

News coverage and media in general are HUGE businesses that require advertising dollars to exist. If an anchor goes on air and uses the language he did, it would make you wonder if he was a loose cannon, as well as begging the question.....Is this the journalist speaking his opinion, or is this actually how the corporation believes. In this case, the statements made by Bashir took the extreme to the max, and no amount of apologies could undo the damage, as well as the threats from their sponsors to take action. He could have conveyed the same message with the same result, by using less offensive language. This is one case where an editor is a invaluable person to consult before airing such an overtly opinionated peice. He is free to say what he wants, just not at the expense of hurting his employers bottom line. I think its the blogosphere where Bashir will make his home for a while. What he did was amature at best. He should have known better, especially when it came to the sensitive subject matter.

The cover story is he somehow /resigned/?
MY curiosity is piqued here .. wonder what the price was for that letter of resignation
(in other words .. what was the amount of the gold-laden parachute that Bashir Got?)

In another note .. it was also amusing to hear Baldwin whine about Bashir not being fired in the first place!

Drew, get it right, he tenured his resignation...big difference. No matter, his comments were worthy of immediate termination, but look who employed him; I give Martin Bashir kudos for taking ownership of his epic broadcast fail, perhaps Ed Schultz will take note.

Not really. There was no way they could keep him after firing Baldwin. It would have shown an obvious bias and double standard and MSNBC already had a lot of criticism mounting upon them. They really had no option. You can bet that they delayed 3 weeks searching for a reason though and when the criticism did not die out...they took the plunge.

Sharpton has started a lot of racism and has made a lot of unsavory remarks but he's never said anything on the scale Bashir and Baldwin have. The difference between Sharpton and those two we're Sharpton is smart enough how to imply and lead his viewers (and everyone else) to his point without crossing the line.
  • srini ZER0 2013/12/06 03:23:21
    srini
Flaw in that logic -- Dullton crossed the line PRIOR to his undeserved ordination as "Reverend", proving that in spades with the Tawana Brawley hoax, and again with the Jena-6 bakvaas.

Well...another one for you then. Sharpton clearly has more connections where it matters than Bashir does. I don't know and I'm not honestly interested enough to debate it. Mostly because I can't - it's all guess work.

Of course Sarah Palin can say anything and that's OK with Fox. As long as it sells her a few thousand more books.
