Former MLB star and controversy connoisseur Manny Ramirez was arrested Monday afternoon after his wife called the authorities claiming he slapped her so hard her face hit the bedpost.
This morning The Associated Press reported he's already been released from jail on $2,500 bail with the condition that he does not have any direct contact with his wife.
The 39-year-old has denied the charges against him, but his wife, Juliana, maintains he struck her during an argument in their bedroom and was afraid the confrontation would escalate, so she called the police.
Ramirez refused to speak to reporters outside of the Broward County Jail when he was released Tuesday.
This comes just months after his retirement from professional baseball, which immediately followed news that he had tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
Manny's career has been alternately plagued and blessed, mostly thanks to an inconsistent combination of athletic ability and unabashed arrogance. He has often split public opinion right down the middle, particularly when he's doing well.
But he's not making it easy for fans to like him. Any remaining supporters will have a tough time reconciling this latest "character flaw."
A woman who was in the car with Ramirez as he left the jail, apparently his sister, told reporters, "He's my brother, we love him no matter what. He's an amazing guy and we love him no matter what."

ANY person on here who gets picked up on this charge would probably love the right to bond out within 24 hours and go home to either work it out or get a counselor (marriage) or get an apartment. Just the verbal charge of abuse does not mean you stay in jail forever until the trial. When my ex was picked up for this, he was back at the house in less then 12 hours-standard operating procedure.

Oh so he's arrogant. BIG SHOCKER. I wonder how long he was in the pokey for. Probably not too long due to his status. You have money in this country- you'll certainly go places no matter what consequences you face for whatever horrendous crime you committed. This is a perfect example and it's puts a pathetic light on our justice system as a whole. You have money, you rule. How twisted........It's sure as hell time for some change in this country. Not the kind of change Obama can give you though, I can tell you that much.
Is this why he is out or could it be that is just not enough evidence against him?
The abuser is slapped on the hand and served restraining orders, which is almost as bad as doing nothing. When a restraining order is given the abuser has to break the order before law enforcement officers can and/or will do anything. As a result, they do little besides pissing the abuser off.
In many, many, cases the first time an abuser gets caught breaking an order is after they have harmed or murdered the person that it was supposed to protect.
but ya' know, he still has to show up for court, and all.
i wish there was an undecided option.
gahh.
Usually a domestic disturbance ends with the couple demanding the police officer leave the premises, or with 1 of the parties spending a week at mom's house. Worst case scenario is they go to jail and have to post bond, without ending up on SodaHead, or the evening news for their troubles.
Celebrities usually get away with murder, but this is an example of a celebrity getting the fullest extent of the law under the circumstances.
Also, a slap is usually a low level misdemeanor that would earn you a ticket/fine. If they are considering it "family violence" or "domestic abuse" then it can be elevated to the level in which you may actually serve jail time.
Your point was?
