A Cobb County man who admitted putting a dog into a hot oven was sentenced Thursday to serve 90 days in jail, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Gary Moore Jr. was charged with felony animal cruelty in May 2011 after he put 20-month-old Melody, a pit bull mix, into an oven as an act of revenge against another man.

Sick that is just Sick. He was supposed to serve 5 years but it was dropped to 90 days and the rest in probation. He should have had to serve the full term and then have probation after.

9 years hard labor would have helped this clown work thru his issues but, as usual, it is a slap on the wrist and lets wait until the unstable idiot kills an actual person before doing anything.

More jail yes, yes, yes, yes. and yessssssssssssssssss. I bet you that this man also abuses other people. This is the kind of person who puts cigarettes out on a child's back, beats his significant other, rapes women/men, or sexually abuses children. It has been found that about 99% of the people who abuse animals are or will do it to other humans. This man should be severely punished for what he did to an innocent life but to also save others ( animals and people ) from this type of tragic abuse.

Heck yeah! He should get more jail time. That's the kind of people jails are made for. He should have least gotten a couple of years for the incident.

Why should it be any less terrible to hurt something just because it's not as smart as us? If you ask me, someone who can do those things to animals can do them to people, and should be punished the same as if it were a human.

People who abuse animals also go on to abuse other people. Animal cruelty laws are not strict enough. Someone who could treat a dog like that, or any animal, should be jailed for a long time.

It's hard to say. He didn't do it to intentionally harm the dog, he did it to 'get back at' his (ex?)boyfriend. The dog was burned but didn't die. There are a number of mitigating factors, which always operate to reduce the sentence. I think it's okay. Treatment is ALWAYS better than a long time in jail.

Nothing excuses his cruelty. I'm thinking the Texas approach might be best, a rope and a tall oak tree.

If you have a little boy ( say five ) and I get mad at you and put your little boy in an oven then you should not be concerned because I did not intentionally do it to your little boy but just to get back at you. If you think this sounds absurd then you know how what you just said sound. This is the type of person who would hurt others and they need to be protected from him hence a long jail time.

But why is jail the best option? Why should a person not receive treatment where treatment is possible? Why throw something away when you can fix it? There are millions and millions of people in jail. Do you think they're all psychopaths?
  • Doreen La 2012/06/03 08:31:09

As I said he can get counseling in jail and when he has come far enough to be a little more acceptable in society he can get out on strict probation and continue mandatory counseling. You would have an entirely different opinion on this if you had a little child who he did this to after graduating from abusing animals to abusing humans. Not all people in jail are psychopaths but people who do this type of thing need a lot of help and the help takes a long time and others need to be protected from that until they are capable of controlling themselves and not be a threat to society ( including animals ). Just patting him on the hand and saying no no and then letting him go with a mandatory month of counseling is not going to come anywhere close to helping him. Maybe instead of jail he could be sentenced for a long time in a mental institution with all of the same rules during and after release.

I certainly hope that you're comments aren't for real. A dog was burned, but didn't die (I'm so happy to hear it because I couldn't bring myself to read the article. I was too busy getting physically sick over what I did read.) how can you right that with such indifference ??
A person can yell for help, what can a dog do? If he fights back he's put to death. I am sicken over your ideas. Please return to whatever planet you came from!

I think it should be an eye for an eye, he should be put in an oven. What is wrong with people? How could someone look at an animal and do something like that! They are so DEFENSLESS, I can't believe that people could do something like this.

Go read the story at the link. I don't think he is going to do something like this again. He's getting treatment. He has depression and did something stupid. Locking people up for a long time is a last resort. If all he has is depression and can be treated, that is preferable to a long jail sentence. Tbh the purpose of the legal system is not to "punish" an offender. They are locked up to protect society.

Jeffery Dalmer was seeking treatment too. Killing small defenseless animals is the first sign of a sociopath. I'm just calling it as I see it.

Lucky dog, just exposed to torture via heat. Almost cooked alive is better than cooked alive right?
