I'll probably be too scared to actually do anything.
The world needs more people like Rob Nuckols around. Cheers for him and the co-worker he had saved!

There are a few moments that people can truly call "life-defining," but for 51-year-old Rob Nuckols, an employee at a roofing company in Clifton, New Jersey, one of those moments happened at 8:40 a.m. on Monday. One of his co-workers, 44-year-old Martin Davis, fell 40-feet through the roof of a high alloy tubing production facility, into a vat filled with a solution of nitric acid. Davis was fully submerged in the solution, and unable to get himself out. Nuckols made the split decision to climb in and help him.
According to NorthJersey.com, initial reports said Nuckols jumped into the vat to save Davis, but later reports claim three other roofers (Rob Fulton, 24; Joe Dabowski, 45; William Walker, in his 20s) helped him. Lucky for everyone, the acid was somewhat diluted, but Davis' brother John said, "They have [Martin] on a breathing apparatus and he's in critical condition. His condition is not so good. But he's a young guy. He'll pull through." Nuckols is being treated for burns on his legs and abdomen, while the other three were taken to the hospital with "irritation on their hands and arms."

A "nitric/hydrofluoric acid pickle and passivate" tank at Swepco Tube LLC, where Davis fell.

The World is a better place for having people like him!
I am curious why it was left to the roofers to fish this poor guy out in the first place. I would think that any company with a Giant Vat of Acid would have an emergency routine for such an eventuality.
These guys were heroic, hope if it happens again to one of them another has the courage to save them.
Now that I have reached an age that I NEVER thought possible ( Most likely to die before 30 figures prominately in my high school yearbook ) i have found that my youthful confidence in my invincability does not play such an integral part of my behavior as once was the case..
But I would STILL like to believe that I would do all that is possible to save a person in trouble.. ESPECIALLY if it involved a loved one or a child.. In THAT case even if I KNEW that I wouldn't survive id would not hesitate... There are WORST ways to die then to do so while saving the life of a loved one or a child and FEW there are that are better..
I don't think I'd have the courage and sheer brass of Rob Nuckols. That is a REAL hero. Amazing. Huge respect for him!
I would only hope that if a situation would ever arise that presented a chance for me to go above and beyond, i would have the courage to do so and the humility afterwards to let it go.
