Man married for 25 years finds out he is a woman, does this mean he needs to get divorced because he is married to the same-sex?

His first priority should be to make sure that his wife doesn't mind being in a marriage with a man with internal lady parts.

WTF... same sex marriages if not legal in a town near you should be legal. He can stay married if he wants to... but if he didn't know he was a man, he has some bigger problems than divorce.

He has both sex organs? Thought usually these people had ineffective sex parts but apparently not since he had a bunch of kids. Anyway it is up to the couple whether they need to get a divorce.

The headline is misleading. He did NOT find out that he's a woman, but rather that he has both male and female traits. He should continue on as before.

No; he (she) needs to confide this in her, preferrably at a time set aside, and then go take a walk or see a movie together :)

He/she got along well for 25 years. Leave it alone. In five more years the sexual thing won't matter any more and they can still have breakfast together and watch television.

It happened before in the 1950s. He had two children with his wife, climbed Mt Everest with the Hillary party, was in the army, but suddenly realized why his life was just not complete. He had a sex change and they stayed married.

He's a hermaphrodite which means he's both sexes biologically. So his ''transistion'' means nothing really. If both parties are willing to stay married, cool let it be. If he were a transsexual or if she was born with a disorder that makes him produce excess amounts of the opposite sexes hormones and appear to be the opposite sex (because either his penis and balls don't drop in the male case of such disorders or the clitoris and uretha is enlarged in the famale case of such disorders) than it would be more complicated. In such complicated cases if they were married to someone the ''opposite sex'' they were living as and recognized legally and socially as at the time then if both parties want to remained married than let them be. If they want to marry the opposite sex of what they legally, socially, and physically transition to (in the case of transsexuals) or they find out they are (in the case of biologically disorders) than let them also marry as straight individuals.

NO, he's a hermaphrodite. There are such humans, but they are extremely rare. A few years back, I read a paper claiming a link between some chemical pollutants and hermaphroditism in humans. (Darn it! I can't find it now.) If that is true, we should see more hermaphrodites in the future.

I wonder what the no gay marriage folks would say about this?

If he could fake it for 25 years, he can keep it up.

He (she) went 25 years without consummating the marriage? And she hasn't already left him (her)?

Because "she" is taking the hormones. I could take hormones too, but I would genetically still be a man.

Um...no. She is takng some homones, but she already had female homones. That's how she found out that she WAS female. Either way, this is another one of those cases in which the line is undeniably blurred. So how can you reasonably judge her for this?

The kind of scan that showed her female parts could not show "her" hormones. You didn't read it yourself, did you? Not carefully, anyway.

I suppose the original wife has the call. Does she feel like a victim of false advertising? But if they have loved one another for 25 years, the exact arrangement of each person's plumbing is not what inspires spiritual love.

Repressed; some things people never realize about themselves till later on, they'd never heard others asking similar self-exploration questions, so they'd never thought to ask it themselves; and/or they were too scared to be open about it...

“It validated everything I had always felt inside,” she said.

In retrospect, the diagnosis makes sense, she explains.

“I remember wearing my mom’s clothes and makeup, very secretly, not telling anybody,” Stevie told the station.
