A smiling Houston man — facing cruelty charges after his pet dog died in Galveston on July 4 when he left it in a sweltering vehicle, Galveston Police say — posed shirtless in his booking mug, giving the thumbs-up sign.

Bill Omer, 23, a student, has been charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal, and was released from custody after posting $15,000 bail, said GPD Lt. Michael Gray.

Omer faces up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine if found guilty of the felony offense.

Remember, this is Texas, home to those with "freedoms" to do as they please without any rules or expectations of civilized behavior. They have at least a hundred "farms" there where animals are raised and trained to come to a specific spot for food, and "hunters" pay
big bucks to shoot them as they eat, even with lights over the buckets at night. Why would they have a law regarding a dog in a car when this sort of stuff is an industry there?

What's wrong with this clown? Man created dogs and dogs are dependent on man. The way we treat dogs in our society is often times disgraceful without this kind of idiocy. If I could be Judge for a day I would want it to be on his day. I'd nail his ass! Good Day!

The guy is certainly a dick for leaving the dog in the car, but pets are not people. Sending the guy to prison for two years and fining him $10,000 over a dog is ridiculous.
