Man Is Rebuilding and Reenacting the Voyage of the Titanic: Would You Go?

Clive Palmer, an Australian billionaire mining mogul, has announced that he wants to not only build an exact replica of the Titanic, but also wants to reenact the ship's ill-fated maiden journey. Er, without that whole sinking part. He's skipping that. And okay, it's not going to be an exact replica. It's going to be fitted with fancy technology to ensure a safe trip. Though we imagine passengers might still feel some anxiety on day four.

When asked if he thought the so-called Titanic II was sinkable -- a sly reference to the original's misnomer -- Palmer replied, "Of course it will sink if you put a hole in it ... It will be designed as a modern ship with all the technology to ensure that doesn't happen. But, of course, if you are superstitious like you are, you never know what could happen." Aside from "state-of-the-art engineering" and a diesel engine, the ship will be as close to the original as possible. Would you be nervous if you had a chance to be on-board a replica Titanic ship?

Unless you invited all 525 members of congress and actually sank it. Then they could get a taste of what they are doing to this country. Otherwise, its a waste of money... We all know what happens ad nauseum.

Why not? Fill that thing with a non--flammable gas and it's totally safe.

Well that's no fun. This time they should fill it with oxyacetylene so it makes a proper bang.

If this goof is doing a reenactment, we have to think it means that the sinking is a part of it. He could have all the lifeboats needed, and the Coast Guard surrounding the ship, and I wouldn't do it. There's two things I hate to be at the same time - wet and cold. I especially got creeped out watching the movie and looking at the ice on their eyebrows. It chilled me to the bone. No thanks. A safe cruise to warm climates are more my thing and a lot safer. I like my cruises hot, hot, hot!

I don't blaime you. They even had a sister ship called Britanic and that was heading to Grease to help out British soldiers and that got sunk by a German spy because of a bomb. It happened 4 years after Titanic.

Fun fact: There has only been one black man on the original Titanic, a Haitian-born, French-educated engineer called Joseph Laroche, traveling with his family.

fun black titanic haitian-born french-educated engineer joseph laroche traveling family

I didn't even know about this... your comment just made me realize that I didn't know if there were any black people on the Titanic at all, so I looked it up and decided to share it with you in case you find it equally interesting.
That's why I love sites like this... you learn stuff. :)

Lol, I didn't know that either. Very interesting. Thanks for the find. Very disappointing that he died, I'm glad he did save his family, though. He seemed like a good man.

I know they've been around since the dawn of man, but wow, an interracial marriage at that time period?

My brother went to Vietnam on one of t.hose ships, and he said he got so seasick it made him happy to run off the ship into enemy fire - he was just so happy to get off that ship. He and I share the seasickness thing - I've been on a lot of cruises, and until we started going on the big megaship that you can hardly feel moving I threw up a lot - but it didn't stop me from cruising. Good outweighed the bad, I guess. I think the worst was the old Norway - it did not have the modern stabilizers, and we sailed on her not too long before she was taken out of the fleet, but I don't know when I've ever been any sicker. I literally had to go to bed - when I wasn't throwing up.

So since he's reenacting the voyage doesn't that mean sinking is part of the reenactment? No thank you lol.

The way my luck goes, this ship would go down too. I think it would a wonderful trip and very sentimental and even solemn but sometimes it's not good to test the fates.

I dunno...kinda feels disrespectful to the memory to actually build a "Titanic 2". Not as disrespectful as the "Titanic 2" movie, but still.

Besides that, even I'm not morbid enough to wish to reenact that voyage.

I found 'Titanic 2' to be hilarious. I doubt that's what they intended, but the community theater/soap-opera-reject-esque acting "skills", horribly cheesy special effects and the choice to use a hotel interior as the inside of the ship were priceless (hey, it's no wonder that ship sank, the lower decks were made entirely out of concrete!).

My favorite scene was when the helicopter landed on the glacier with no problem, but then some guy dropped a core sample onto the ice, causing a huge chunk of ice to break off. LOL!

I do not remember enjoying playing,"House," and dress up games, whatever, past being, maybe 10.

However, I am willing to accept that I am missing the point here.

Oh and this was just done a 2 weeks ago.

The first act didn't go well. I'm not to sure I'd take a chance on the sequel.
