Louisiana Republican Supports State Funds For Religious Schools, As Long As They’re Not Islamic

Samantha 2012/07/06 19:25:56

Another example of conservative religious bigotry.

Louisiana Republicans supported Gov. Bobby Jindal’s overhaul of the state’s education system, which includes a voucher program that allows state funds to be used to send students to religiously-affiliated schools — until they began to realize that Islamic schools could also be among the institutions supported by taxpayer funds.

Rep. Valarie Hodges (R-Watson) voted for Jindal’s bill in the Louisiana House, but has since withdrawn her support for the measure because she now realizes that it “unfortunately” applies more broadly:

HODGES: I actually support funding for teaching the fundamentals of America’s Founding Fathers’ religion, which is Christianity, in public schools or private schools…Unfortunately it will not be limited to the Founders’ religion. We need to insure that it does not open the door to fund radical Islam schools. There are a thousand Muslim schools that have sprung up recently. I do not support using public funds for teaching Islam anywhere here in Louisiana.

The story was factual; I can't be blamed for conservative bigotry in Louisiana.

Yes, of course, conservatives hate facts, science and reason. They prove it every day. What about the Christian fundamentalists who are attempting to destroy our country?

Ah, I'm getting the other polarized side of Sodahead now that most of the nutjobs on this site talk about.

Relax. Unless religion intrudes negatively on my life or on general rights I have no problem with it. So don't call me a conservative (or a liberal, for that matter -_-).

But now that you've got my attention...

    ;)

allowing and promoting one religion over another.

    hypocrisy:
The practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense.

And people actually elected the person to represent them? The US Constitution is very clear about supporting religious insitutions with state taxes.

The fact of the matter is that liberals would support religious schools as long as they were Islamic and Islamic only. Just my guess.

Islam is not a religion by the way. It seems more like some form of government control.

Government control? Hmmm... no wonder liberals love it so much.

I think your wrong in this case. I Don't think my tax dollars should support any kind of religions in school. You are there to learn not to be indoctrinated into someones interpretation of religion. I think that should be sought out by the individual outside school. That all we need, Holy Wars in our schools.

Sharia Law as I understand it "deals with many topics addressed by secular law, including crime, politics and economics, as well as personal matters such as sexual intercourse, hygiene, diet, prayer, and fasting." That sounds more like control to me and not the worship of a diety. My God does give me a moral code to live by and then He gives me grace and strength to follow that code and grow into a better person. I do not always succeed but He is always faithful to forgive and give me another chance. When I fail, I do not have fellow Christians coming at me to kill or maim me but rather to offer me wisdom and support.

What do I see of Islam? I saw them fly planes full of innocent people into tall buildings and then dance in their streets when those buildings fell killing thousands. I read stories of them pushing little girls back into burning buildings because their heads were not covered. I watched a video of them slicing the head off Nick Berg who screamed when the knife started slicing his throat and who kept screaming until they cut through the windpipe. I watched a video of them standing on the head of a man with their sandal and then pushing a pointy knife into his throat and slicing outwards and I hear the gurgling sound even now. I watched a video of them standing on the head of a man with their sandal and then pushing a pointy knife into his throat and slicing outwards and I hear the gurgling sound even now. (I don't watch anymore videos of them killing people whose only crime seems to be that they are not muslim. I did not watch the video of them shooting the woman who they say commited the crime of adultery) I read of muslims putting body bombs on their children and women and then sending them into crowds of innocent shoppers.

All these attrocities that I see done I want to think these are extremist fanatics but how can that be when I don't hear mainstream muslims condemn these acts?

God, the father of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, gives me a reason to live. Allah seems to give muslims a reason to die. God and allah are NOT the same.

The history of Christianity is stained with innocent blood. At one time Christianity was the terrorism on the face of the earth and Islam was a peaceful religion. Today the roles seem to be reversed. There are some crazy nutjobs in the Christian religion today and when we find them (such as the Westboro Baptist Church) we condemn them. Jesus Himself said many will say they prophesied in His name but He will tell them He never knew them.

I know there are good muslims but too much what I see is them using allah and fear to govern and control. They do not seem to be interested in getting along. Rather their only objective seems to be FORCING the rest of the world to bow down to their control.

I wish we'd see more fundamentalist Christians marching in the streets denouncing right wing violence against abortion clinics and abortion doctors. Until they do, I'll believe fundamentalist Christians condone the violence.

I agree with you on this. I also wish we would see as much marching in the streets denouncing left wing violence against anyone who dares to express an opinion that differs from theirs. Now we are hearing stories of left wingers video taping the homes of conservative politicians and publishing the addresses of those homes as a means of intimidation. Obviously the left knows their followers are prone to the same kinds of violence we saw in the Occupy movement.

    It goes both ways.
