LIMBAUGH: ‘BLAMING GUNS FOR MURDER IS LIKE BLAMING FORKS FOR OBESITY’

doofiegirl POTL~PWCM~JLA 2012/07/23 20:25:18
Radio host Rush Limbaugh obviously isn’t one for holding back his political opinions. With perspectives raging in the days following the Aurora, Colorado, shooting rampage, the popular conservative commentator is speaking out about gun control and proposals to crack down on weapons.

(Related: Priest Pushes for More Gun Control by Calling It a ‘Religious Issue’ Like ‘Abortion, Euthanasia or the Death Penalty’)

During his show today, Limbaugh said that he tries to shy away from politicizing tragedies like the one that unfolded in Aurora. However, he delved into some of the issues surrounding gun control as well as the negativity that is so often prevalent in American media and culture.

“It’s undeniable that our culture is sending messages — a lot of terrible messages — to really weak, I don’t want to say dumb — maybe mentally impaired people,” he said. “Most people are able to handle it, compartmentalize it…it’s over there, it’s self-contained and it‘s not real and other people aren’t able to make those distinctions.”

And Rush would know about obesity. Oh but on this issue I do agree. People kill people.

More accurately, people with guns kill people. Guns are too accessible in this country. When a person can buy ammunition by the thousands on the Internet without raising flags, something is seriously wrong. The problem is the American gun culture.

People don't have to have guns. I've seen people killed with knives, razors, bottles, clubs, baseball bats, pool cues, ropes, bare hands, cars, tire irons, water and the list goes on. I've even seen a child killed by being slung into a wall. If someone wants to kill you they don't need a gun.

True; however, the difference is the lethal power of guns. Had Holmes entered the theater with a baseball bat, it's highly unlikely 70 people who have been seriously injured or killed. Therefore, your argument is hardly valid. The bottom line is the lethal power of guns especially the type of guns Holmes had in his possession.

I stand by my comment about the lethal power of guns versus, for example, a baseball bat or knife.

There's no way he could have injured or killed that many people with a baseball bat or a machete. The issue is the lethal power of guns.

I so love the conservative spin about guns; of course, most of it is based on insane support of a violent gun culture. The fact remains that guns are far more lethal.

Ted Bundy killed 30 people and never used a gun.
H.H. Holmes While he confessed to 27 murders, of which four were confirmed, his actual body count could be as high as 200. He never used a gun.
John Wayne Gacy, murdered at least 33 teenage boys and young men between 1972 and 1978. He never used a gun.

    Need I go on?

I so love how conservatives attempt to distract from the violent gun culture. It's a lame argument but, of course, most conservative arguments tend to be lame.

By the way, in the years Bundy, Gacy and Holmes were killing, how many Americans were killed by guns?

I doubt you're willing to answer that question.

You miss the whole point-deliberately, I think. Violent people fire those guns- the guns don't chose who uses them! I own three guns, I've never used one on another human being--- but I have been in a situation or two where I was damned glad I had it in my hand! Once was when my ex husband broke into my house, and was planning on beating me---- I leveled that 38 at him, and he got out quick! The other was a few years after my husband died. I hired a man to build a storage building in the back of my house. He worked out there one day, and after he left, I walked up to see the progress. I know Nothing of carpentry, but knew immediately I could do a better job on that shed! I called him, and told him not to come back,, I would mail him a days pay, he was fired. He knew I was alone here----- he showed up drunk and angry about three hours after I fired him, and told me I would pay him or die. I had my 357 in hand. I pointed it at him , and told him to try. For some strange reason, he left--without the days pay. I didn't Want to shoot anybody- but I would have done it if either of those fools had made another step!

Violence can be found in nearly every culture and predates the invention of the gun. It even exists in the animal kingdom.
Blaming guns is avoiding the truth about our species.

55.6% of American gun deaths are suicides. http://www.cdc.gov/NCHS/data/...

If they didn't use guns they would find another way.
Therefor most gun-related deaths that you liberals talk about are self-inflicted and would have occurred with or without guns.
