It is my casual observation that many conservatives seem to be prone to be dog lovers, and many liberals seem prone to favor cats. Here is a video of one of my kitties

Of course an animal lover is an animal lover- but I was wondering if there was any validity to my very loose theory. A poster here named Live Free or Die said we do fight like cats and dogs though- I thought that was pretty clever.

Hi Victoria. I have been around here and there. I am spending less time on this site - the negativity was starting to get to me. I sometimes find it difficult to accept how people think. These last months there have been some pretty repulsive posts. I get really tired of the hatred, the racism, the paranoia and the crude, rude behavior and words. If you give an opinion that they don't like you get swarmed by a bunch of pretty nasty people.
Sorry for the rant. It is very good to hear from you.

This is my friend (who has since passed) who changed my understanding about both cats and animals in general.

Simba, who was essentially blind since birth, was able to run up and down the stairs, climb up the bookcase, and once he even caught a bird (I was able to free it). He lived a largely independent life, but every now and then he had a little trouble getting around and he always knew that I'd be there to give him just the help that he needed. It's been over two years now, and the house still feels terribly empty without him.

Leopold seems to find fun and adventure in everyday objects the same way that Simba and his brother did. Having them around helped me see the world differently. (Leopold seems to like the same kind of cat treats that our cats enjoy).

Simba would climb up as high as he could go, and then drive us crazy by sitting just on the edge, "looking" out over his world. He never fell or even lost his footing, unlike some of our sighted cats.

Seven? Boy you probably have to watch your step every waking moment. I just love it at this stage, especially when they have litter mates to play with, you really get a perspective on each kitten's budding personality.

ANd they are budding and bursting out-

Mostly they fight for the prime real estate of my lap.
My legs are bitten and scratched all over.

They all insist on sleeping with me at night too.

We have a ritual in our house of having to reserve the left over milk from our morning cereal to some very restless observers.

As your cats get larger, the dibs on your lap might make you immobilized. We have a cat that treasures that space, and lets you know it by his audible purring. Unfortunately you can't do anything. If you try to answer the phone or read the newspaper, or get up to get some coffee, you get a very dirty look from this guy.

I'm already immobilized! I have a heating pad on the couch that I try to transfer them to when I get up- but they don't fall for that.

When I fill the food bowl, baby Teddy runs to the refrigerator already- I've spoiled him because he's the runt- and now he won't eat just plain kitten chow- I have to put CREAM in it- I'm trying to add more milk- it's my own fault-

they run my life- and the adults act out because they aren't getting the normal attention-

It takes me 10 minutes to pet every little head when I enter a room- and god help me if I forget one!

I have a paper route where I deliver about 120 to 150 papers depending on the night of the week. during the night I take the time to feed three sometimes four stray cats (I'm still going to have to figure out what to do with at least two of them during this potentially cold winter).

I also throw out cat food to the stray cats at the local trailer court, although I know that the people there do help to feed them. These cats actually get choosy about the kind of cat food I provide for them.

i'M TRYING TO FIND NAMES FOR MY POSSUMS-
    oops-
sugarbuzz suggested Pooh- but I call Papacat Poopydoo- and when I called the possum Pooh she came running-

I had their dad(?) last year and I named him Obama Opossum.

These little guys waddle into the house and eat from the cat food bowl- and run into the bathroom and hide behind the toilet sometimes- I have a towel there for them now-

but I don't want them to become dependent on me and lose their ability to find food on their own...

Lately we've had two show up almost every night eating off the ground. Steve has gone so far as to not waddle off when we open the door, but he still keeps his distance. He isn't scared of Shadow, our cat who doesn't seemed bothered by Steve.

We live in a section of town near a "dumping site" for unwanted pets. For the last few years all our cats have adopted us, rather than the reverse. While I am pushing for a no-kill animal shelter in our town (a town just adjacent to us has one) I work with a business owner and a few people to get the feril population fixed and provide food and shelter for them during the year.
