Lessons Many Americans Never Learned - Part II
Last week we began this series to remind readers throughout the country of the dangers we face as a nation simply because many Americans, including and especially our leaders, do not really understand the threat of Communism. Some, of course, are involved in the furtherance of Socialism and Communism, while others are involved unknowingly. The more advances that the Communists make worldwide, the more is the threat to these United States of America.
We want to continue to provide information from the writings of Dr. Fred C. Schwarz, (1913-2009), founder of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade in 1953 in America, of whom I wrote in Part I, 9/20/10---and others. Dr. Schwarz was a foremost authority on the subject throughout his lifetime. His book, You Can Trust the Communists...to Be Communists, was printed in 13 languages and his teaching enlightened millions worldwide. The Crusade is now led by Dr. David Noebel of Summit Ministries in Colorado who continues to publish the monthly newsletter, The Schwarz Report, first published in 1960. Over the years, it has greatly increased my understanding of the Communist threat. Dr. Noebel has just recently updated Schwarz' book, entitled You Can Still Trust the Communists...to Be Communists, which we should all read and try to get into our local libraries.
"Communists believe they have a destiny. Their destiny is to create a new world and regenerate mankind. To do this they must conquer the world, shatter the Capitalist system, and, by Communist dictatorship, establish the regenerative environment of Socialism." (Schwarz, "Trust the Communists," p. 15). They believe that their plan will be successful and they are patiently striving to make it happen. Unfortunately, many Americans contribute to their success through believing Communist lies, purchasing Communist goods, joining their organizations and "peace" moves, and sitting under Communist teachers and preachers.
Do Socialists and Communists teach in our schools and colleges? Do American parents pay to send their children to such schools? Of course, they do. John Stormer in None Dare Call It Treason, many years ago researched and found the number of leftist college professors in America to be in the thousands. I have a friend who sat under a professed Communist teacher in high school in Florida. As a graduate of Rutgers University, College of Agriculture, in 1952, I later found that the university was conducting leftist meetings and was then glad that I hadn't financially supported them after graduation. (This may well be the reason that the R.U. College of Agriculture was later re-named Cook College, the original name of the college). In The Schwarz Report of July 2010, I read, not too surprisingly, (Quoted from WorldNetDaily, 11/16/08):
"Just days after the party's official newspaper lauded the role of labor unions in Obama's election victory, another article in the Communist Party's Political Affairs magazine by leading party member and Rutgers University history professor Norman Markowitz outlined the kind of 'change' he expects Obama to bring to the U.S. (emphasis mine)
"For the people who elected Obama and the increased Democratic majority," Markowitz writes, " 'change we can believe in' isn't about bailouts for corporations and banks...It is about ending the post-World War II policies that led to the long-term stagnation and decline of the labor movement. It is about creating a national public health-care program...A 'single-payer' national health system...should be an essential part of the change that the core constituencies which elected Obama desperately need."
"A stronger left that follows the tradition of the Communist Party," Markowitz writes, "in its unbreakable commitment to a socialist future and to educating people about the value and necessity of socialist policies in the present could follow."
In the chapter, "Allies of Communism," Dr. Schwarz wrote: In...1903, Lenin established the movement called Bolshevism with 17 supporters. In the year 1917, Lenin conquered Russia with a Party of approximately 40,000 members. In 1959, the party of Lenin had conquered one billion people...In less than half a century, they have conquered far more than the total number of the world's population who have heard the minimum story of Christ from any source after 2000 years. There are in the world today five children in school learning in detail the godless doctrines of Communism, for every one child in any school anywhere learning anything about Christ." (You Can Trust the Communists...to Be Communists, pp.104-105).
At the time of his writing, Schwarz reported that the Communists in Russia were graduating three times the number of scientists and engineers as the United States. He wrote of visiting an American college and being introduced by the president of the college to their most honored student, a leading basketball player. "Frequently I asked, 'Who is your leading science student?' He looked at me in wonder and amazement. He could not answer the question. To find out information like that a careful study of the records would be required." (p. 107-108).
In the field of communications: "The Communists are engaged in the greatest literature crusade mankind has ever known...beautiful literature in almost every language and distributing it in every corner of the earth." Examples are: The Problems of Leninism, by Joseph Stalin, China Pictorial magazine, and childrens' books in a multitude of languages. (p. 111). I can still remember the shock of seeing my first Communist magazine in a public library in Hackensack, New Jersey, years ago.
Incidentally, I have never found The New American magazine, a sterling publication of the John Birch Society, on any newstand. We were once able to get it into our local public library by purchasing a subscription, but other libraries told us that it was not on the recommended list. Speaking of the John Birch Society, I recently heard a message by Ezra Taft Benson, former Secretary of Agriculture, concerning the attack of the Communists on the Society in 1961 early in its existence. The signal and introduction for this attack was an article in the Communist publication, People's World in California. The lies and distortions of truth were phenominal and the attack spread throughout the media until the Society was able to get a complete exoneration, with the truth of their program and goals, through the California courts in 1963. Now, over 50 years since its founding, the JBS is still a leading patriot group seeking to reclaim our Republic from Socialist and Communist influence.
There is so much more to be told of lessons for Americans, many of whom, I'm convinced, have never learned about the real and present threat to American freedoms, that I trust you will bear with this senior citizen as I continue this series.
Dr. Schwarz spoke to many students while on his Crusades. He told of two students who came to him very concerned after his speech. One said, "The government must do something about this!" The second student corrected him by stating, "No, WE must do something about this!" Our government eliminated the House Committee on Un-American Activities and the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee many years ago. That should give us a good example of the lack of concern of our leaders concerning Communism. Patriotic Americans must stand in the gap. We must be informed and active in this battle. God warns us of "spiritual wickedness in high places." It is a spiritual battle for which Christians must be prepared and for which others need to seek for truth and righteousness.
