Lesbians Sue Catholic Hospital for Denying Spousal Health Care Benefits: Pick a Side?

Sue the bloody pants off them. They would not get away with that in another country, even one that was majority Catholic, like Austria or Italy.

European Catholicism is different than American Catholicism.

Unfortunately I believe Religious Hospitals have a right to practice what they believe. I believe a Lesbian couple has the right to have Health care like any married couple. I'm pretty torn on this. If they hired a Lesbian knowingly then I almost want to say that they are then obligated to give her and her family insurance benefits. This is hard for me. I was raised Catholic but as an adult have chose not to belong to any organized religion.

They are not allowed to ask those questions, so how can they knowingly hire a lesbian?

The catholic hospitals has no rigth to deny spousal benefits to a lesbian couple. Hospitals in a secular Country shouldn't apply their religious beliefs. It's against the state's law, we are not at the Vatican.

Lots of people use the bible to project hate, violence, and war.
The book itself is full of repulsive, violent so-called god's law, and usually
involves throwing stones at your neighbors until they are murdered.
These days they are too lazy to throw stones, and the preachers just want them frothing enough to reach in their wallets for that donation that means the preacher does not have to work or pay taxes. In short the old testiment is much based on the culture of the time, the new testiment mostly recognises this and tries to universalise what is good to be universal in all cultures, as to be honest I think whatever the culture is and whatever the time is, the commandment love your neighbor as yourself can transend all of them because behaving that way can be regarded by pretty much everyone as good.
The Bible should not - in fact most of it - cannot be taken literally, and all genuine Christians should unreservedly accept homosexuals.

Christianity is a church of sinners. We all break the rules and most of the time people can't help it. As to whether or not I have a right to assess whether or not a person has broken such a rule by being a homosexual, I say that I do not (although most Christians feels they have a right to judge anyone for just about any action ) and defer to Jesus when he said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

People pick and choose what they want to follow sometimes. Every American of legal age who is not married has the legal right to marry some ONE with the same qualifications of the opposite sex. That is equal protection under the law.

"Gay marriage" is an oxymoron. Marriage by definition is between people of the opposite sex, and in western tradition, ONE MAN & ONE WOMAN.

A gay marriage doesn't destroy traditional marriage any more than a homosexual, by his or her very existence, destroys heterosexuality. Divorce does. As to the legalities and theological and social ramifications, I have no authority to pass judgment (although most everyone feels they have a right to judge anyone for just about any action). The hospital is not refusing to heal the sick they are refusing BENEFITS which are not rights but gifts given by employers to employeses for work done. No employer is required to give benefits they do so to attract more qualified workers.

Refusing benefits is forcing someone to be sick at some point. My name is Gloria with a G.

HOW? Benefits do not determine a persons health they do not determine anything what so ever except how much the employer values the employee.

And everyone who works for a small company who doesn'thave teh resources to give benefits, ask anyone who works for a non profit there are no benfeits there either in most cases...

I have worked everyday of my life and never had a Benefits package... that wasn't a factor in my health. And when I was sick I sougt treatment same as I do now
