Latest Reuters Poll Shows Obama With 7 Point Lead Nationally

ProudProgressive 2012/05/08 21:03:53

Earlier, Right Wing Rasmussen posted one of its famous "fair and balanced" polls which, as is generally the case, skewed about ten points in the Republican conservative right wing direction. But now an actually fair and unbiased poll has once again demonstrated that people who rely on Rasmussen for anything approaching accuracy are probably spending way too much time looking for nonexistent Kenyan Australian birth certificates.

Article excerpt follows:

Reuters Poll: Obama By 7 Nationally

3:32 PM EDT, Tuesday May 8, 2012

A new national poll conducted by research firm Ipsos and sponsored by Reuters shows President Obama leading former Massachusetts Gov. and likely GOP nominee Mitt Romney by 7 points, 49 percent to 42 percent, an improvement from March’s Reuters poll which showed a 4 point lead for Obama. The President’s approval rating is also up to 50 percent in the poll against 47 percent disapproval, which was tied even at 49 percent last month. From their analysis:

In another indicator that the debate this election will center on the economy, jobs and domestic policy, voters are closely divided on the relative strength of Obama and Romney on jobs and the economy, taxes, and immigration.

Obama is strong on foreign policy, indicating recent Republican attacks in this area will be less effective. Currently majorities of voters prefer Obama on the war on terror and Afghanistan policies.

Great news and now that Romney's real record in Massachusetts - the fact the state sank in job creation rankings while he was governor - is seeing the light of day, we're learning Mittens isn't the jobs creation genius he thinks he is.

No polls are accurate this early in the campaign for POTUS 2012, The Election campaign is just now in its infancy. The GOP has not selected a nominee yet, The Republican Convention is not until Aughst, 2012. I have been to several TEA Part Express rallys in recent weeks and we are now stronger than in 2010. The Liberals better get ready to move out if they are incumbents,

Of course, like you do, some could say that Reuters might be biased.

Thats why averaging out all the polls is the best idea.

Oh I know that no poll is completely reliable, and even a well conducted and truly neutral poll doesn't mean all that much six months before election day. I just posted this one to balance out the poll someone else put up about Rasmussen. I figure both sides deserve the opportunity to pretend these things are relevant :)

When all the polls are tallied the average comes out to Obama 46.2 Romney 46.

I wouldn't be surprised. For one thing, polls six months before an election are relatively meaningless, and for another, it will take the public some time to truly appreciate how little Romney has to offer. The only reason I bothered to post this is because someone put up a Rasmussen poll earlier in the day, and after I stopped laughing I just had to put up something that was at least on the same planet as reality.

6 months to go, and Romney isn't even the official nominee yet -- 7 points isn't much.

I'd say he's about as "official" as he can get. He'll get a small bump in the polls when the convention rolls around, and assuming he doesnt commit political suicide with his choice of running mate the way McCain did I doubt he'll fall THAT far behind in the polls.

I meant the Republican machine and the RNC aren't fully cranked yet, an official platform isn't established yet, etc. -- mucho dinero still to be spent.
