KSM torture did not stop LA attack

Ever since the revelations that the torture of Abu Zubaydah provided only false leads, conservatives have jumped on a Bush-era memo claiming that torture of KSM stopped an attack in LA. This is false, and easily proven so.

According to the Bush White House, the mastermind of that attack was arrested in February 2002 . They confirmed this again in a fact sheet . All well and good.

KSM was arrested on March 1, 2003 . How is it possible that torture done over a year after plot was broken up and the mastermind was arrested stopped that exact same plot?

Yup, no barbarism for America. Soon we will have great neighbors like the terrorist from Gitmo on allowances from your taxes. What a great life they will have.

Why should we care about all this information? After we only had one 911 in eight years. Prior to that we had the bombing of the World Trade Center, the bombing of the USS Cole, the bombing of our troops in Lebanon. But who cares.

We love to be bomb and love to cuddle up to terrorist. After all they are the barbarians and all we have are Hersheys.

Make sure you stock up on goodies. I heard they hate us for our lifestyle - but its not important. They still have ways to go, there's chicago - now they haven't had any bombings yet maybe these boogie men really don't exists. They can start at P-Oprahs Studio, perhaps she would like to give up her many mansions. Nothing to fear though these boogie men don't exist.

911? Forget that - it was just the work of realtors who needed more money to build a new one -right?

Should anything happen to this country - remember one thing Bush/Cheney line is silent.

Zuggi, there's an uproar over water boarding right? For those who say that the information is not useful then the above answer you replied to are my thoughts.

I personally thank Bush for keeping us safe but a lot of people think Bush/Cheney invented all these boogie men. All the information extracted was not useful so they say. Amazing they still have life in them to write at Sodahead.

When the terrorist have their way with America who will have the last LOL?

Considering that my post prove that they were lying in their best example of claiming that waterboarding saved American lives, I think Bush/Cheney are full of shit.

Were you a party to the classified info. Is Los Angeles still standing. Sometimes I wish Bush/Cheney just allowed the second wave of attack just to prove their point.

It's so easy to say they were full of shit when your shit is still going.

It's easy to see that their claim that they stopped a terrorist attack in 2002 with torture in 2003 is full of shit, yes.

Yesterdays news if you were paying attention to it stated that Obamas chief intelligence officer said that it did stop the second wave of attacks. If that is shit for you, then tell that to the Los Angeles residents , that their life is shit because someone tried to stop that second wave of attack.

I'm sure they will be shitting all over your face.

Admiral Blair did not say mention the LA attack. You left out a relevant part of his memo as well.

"The information gained from these techniques was valuable in some instances, but there is no way of knowing whether the same information could have been obtained through other means," Admiral Blair said in a written statement issued last night. "The bottom line is these techniques have hurt our image around the world, the damage they have done to our interests far outweighed whatever benefit they gave us and they are not essential to our national security."

Do terrorist really care about America? About our image -if they did there would have been no attacks at all.

No, terrorists don't. But we're going to beat the terrorists of today. The problem is the next group of terrorists; destroying our image will help them immeasurably with recruitment.

And, the problem is, they can hang out around the campfire hiding in
caves with nothing to do but think of ways of destroying the
United States......... their greatest weapon is their imagination and our greatest vulnerability is the lack of imagination.

True, but that really has nothing to do with torture.

Mattynr, well said. Soon our greatest vulnerabilities will not only be lack of imagination but lack of intelligence. Our agents and allies in the international arena will have complete intelligence blackout.

We don't need imagination on the consequence. Some Americans can focus on torture while the terrorist will focus on torturing.

A better question might be do you care about America- about our image. This behavior was not worthy of America- it is beneath us. America should always take the moral high ground- torture is juat wrong.
  • M Gem April 24, 2009 16:32:39
    M
We can have all the moral high ground, while the terrorist will have all the immoral low ground.

No person and government will want to ally themselves with this administration or this country now and in the future because providing intelligence means broadcasting to the enemies who are drooling on this classified intelligence.

This will have repercussions. Continue to support this and you will find America isolated in term of intelligence gathering. A vulnerability only the enemies can appreciate.
  • Zuggi M April 24, 2009 16:33:46

Our enemies are not drooling over this intelligence. They knew it. I knew it. Everyone knew it.
  • M Zuggi April 24, 2009 21:38:16

Really! So if everyone knew it then why all the fuss on the release of documents.
  • Zuggi M April 24, 2009 21:39:58
    Zuggi
Because Cheney needed to keep it quiet or there's a chance he'll go to prison.
  • M Zuggi April 24, 2009 21:49:01
    M
Why? When the ACLU is making it so loud. Nancy Pelosi and other top ranking Democrats knew about it. Everyone wants their heads right? So why can't Cheney request that all documents be release that would prove that it did prevent the next wave of terrorism.

Lets bring everyone to the table and see who knew and encourage it. Lets bring the policy makers including top Democrats who knew about it. Pelosi was the top Democrat then. Lets get to the bottom of this.

Cheney is requesting it to open up latitude; he needs to muddy the waters.

I believe the documents he's requesting won't say what he says they say. These documents didn't.
