KSM torture did not stop LA attack

Ever since the revelations that the torture of Abu Zubaydah provided only false leads, conservatives have jumped on a Bush-era memo claiming that torture of KSM stopped an attack in LA. This is false, and easily proven so.

According to the Bush White House, the mastermind of that attack was arrested in February 2002 . They confirmed this again in a fact sheet . All well and good.

KSM was arrested on March 1, 2003 . How is it possible that torture done over a year after plot was broken up and the mastermind was arrested stopped that exact same plot?

Now you're just using plain logic! That's just being unfair!

Do you REALLY expect them to submit to plain logic? If so, then maybe the terrorists HAVE won!

Smoke and mirrors. Vader Cheney put him in the wayback machine and let Mr. Peabody and Sherman work on him.

If you're gonna make a claim, you should check the docs to make sure you don't contradict yourself. The Bush Administration were obviously not smart enough to do that.
They dug their own grave here. Cheney should be asked in an interview to specifically answer to this instance.

No, fiaca, Cheney should be asked under oath. His answer would tell us a lot. An interview would be OK to see how the answers matched up, though.

    under oath - even better.

So prove it...Release the official government documents
  • +1 raves [-] Zuggi tiotom77 April 24, 2009 14:42:30
Umm... I kind of can't. All I can do is link to the government documents that have been released and show how they cannot make the argument that they have been making using them.
  • [-] Boulder... tiotom77 April 26, 2009 16:27:35
Certain people involved are falling all over themselves in contradictions and "misstatements". Bring the documents on! The more the merrier!

Yes, I go to think progress for reliable information about George W. Bush.

Who knows better about a CIA operation...the CIA or think progress?

    Hmmm....

Did you even bother to follow the links?

Think Progress only collated the links. The actual links were to the George Bush White House and the article that you all have been posting constantly.

    Yes.

George Bush? No the claim is from the CIA.

What is bizarre about being a leftist is that whenever you folks come across evidence you don't like, you scream 'lie'. Then you want us to believe that driving SUV's will cause the world to plunge into doom.

Let me ask you this...why is Camp X-Ray at Gitmo still open? The Democrat-controlled congress can close it immediately and the POTUS can do it by executive order.

Why? Because liberal fantasy to shut it down will result in the release of some or most cut-throat killers. If these killers get out and kill again (like a few have) it will fall square in the lap of this dangerously inept man in the white house.

The CIA's claim from 2005 (which was rebrought now) squarely contradicts the statements of the Bush White House. That's rather firm evidence that something in there is not right.

Why is Gitmo still open? Because it takes a while to close it. It's going to be closed, and no terrorists will be released into the United States.

    >Why is Gitmo still open? Because it takes a while to close it.

    It does?

That's not what I heard Barry say during the campaign.

    > It's going to be closed, and no terrorists will be released into the United States.

No? I wonder how you can claim this. If they are tried in Federal Prison in Montana and a team of ACLU lawyers funded by Hollywood billionaires gets them off, how can you stop them from claiming asylum?
  • +1 raves [-] Zuggi Art April 24, 2009 21:29:39 (edited)
You'd have to be insane to think that any of them would actually get asylum.

We're getting off topic, however. The point is that the evidence that was used to "prove" torture worked was impossible.
  • [-] Art Zuggi April 24, 2009 21:31:37
    Insane?

Hadly...we can't even deport the president's aunt who is in direct violation of a DEPORTATION ORDER and all those wonderful campaign finance laws that conservatives actually obey didn't stop her from donating to Barry's campaign.

Good job McCain!...unilaterally disarm on campaign finance then stand surprised when Barry lies about his promise to take only public financing.

Yes, you would have to be insane to believe that a terrorist would get asylum. Furthermore, they would already be in custody.

I'd rather have a president who knows to take the smart decision sometimes. It was smart of him to go off of public finance.

We're getting off topic, however. The point of this blog is that the evidence that was used to "prove" torture worked was impossible. I'd like you to try and refute that. Go to the links I provided. Tell me exactly how this time machine worked.

    >Yes, you would have to be insane to believe that a terrorist would get asylum.

So I guess this never happened?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/ne...

    > It was smart of him to go off of public finance.

Sure...it was a cunning lie...kudos for being under-handed and fooling a stooge like McCain.

    >The point of this blog is that the evidence that was used to "prove" torture worked was impossible. I'd like you to try and refute that.

    I reject your premise.

I believe the CIA. I don't belief think progress.
