Knowing you had a 50 percent chance of winning and would be paid 10 times the amount of your bet if you won, what fraction of what you now own would you be willing to wager?

I'm not a gambler. 50% is not enough possibility for me. Maybe if it were 90-100% sure! Other than that, I have other ways to make money, they don't require me to lose a whole lot.

I don't have a whole lot to lose. Especially if we're just talking about money rather than belongings.

right now i have about £3 spare. Were this after my next student finance payment, i'd go for 100%. But as it is? 4.6% is all i could spare. I can't risk losing the rest.

I understand. Thanks. Feeding the poor, helping the Homeless, And helping to deliver the message and good news of the Gospel to the world is only three things off the top of my head that the money would be used for. I’m sure there are many like them that I could include but the list would be rather long. Again thanks. Shalom.

Do you think he knows that the earliest known texts place this number at 616, not 666?
Or that it's DCLXVI, not VI VI VI? (well, really it's DCXVI for the correct 616.)
(Well, this was a "friendly FYI too, perhaps with mild passive aggressive undertones directed towards הרב ריאן Rabbi Ryan...)

Great question. In any investment or gamble, I base my decision on the downside risk, not the potential upside.

Take the same amount, double it and invest it in a worthwhile charity.
See if you don't feel better invested, but before you quit invest time in the same.

Behold, what is a man profited, if he gain the who world and lose his own soul?

50% chance of winning means it's a two sided bet. I'd bet 50% on either side and come out 5 times ahead of my total investment.
