The US Justice Department said it would not prosecute Attorney
General Eric Holder over his refusal to hand over documents on a botched
gun-running operation to Congress, even after the House of
Representatives held him in contempt.

In a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, Deputy Attorney General
James Cole said the Justice Department had “determined that the attorney
general’s response to the subpoena issued by the Committee on Oversight
and Government Reform does not constitute a crime.”

“Therefore the department will not bring the congressional contempt
citation before a grand jury or take any other action to prosecute the
attorney general,” Cole wrote.

Justifying
his refusal, Cole cited a “longstanding position” of the Justice
Department not to prosecute officials for withholding documents
“pursuant to a presidential assertion of executive privilege.”

Cole reminded Boehner that former Republican presidents Ronald Reagan
and George W. Bush had asserted the same privilege in their dealings
with Congress.

The refusal came after US lawmakers on Thursday took the historic and
controversial step of holding Holder in contempt over the gun-tracking
operation known as Fast and Furious.

Murder, illegal drugs, and the desire to validate some highly dubious statistics. "Ninety percent of all the guns that the Mexican gangsters have come from America!"

    And the people said, "Bunk!"

And the government said, "Oh, yeah? We'll show you!"

And so they "threw down" 2000 guns on the Mexican side.

And then they said, "There! Yasee? What did we tell you? Now give up those guns!"

And somewhere in the process, a good man, just doing his duty, died in the line of that duty.

Mr Fix it, the go to guy when people get in the way and problems need to disappear. An expert specialist in cover ups, working with banana company terrorist groups, arranging suicides, booking plane crashes, arranging that occasional high speed car parking in the ditch or around a tree. Maybe some trumped up jail time is more your cup of tea. Mr Fix it does it all.

duh....everyone knew this would be the outcome. You don't expect the Justice Department to prosecute the Attorney General. It has never happened in the history of the United States. Everybody knows that. If Congress wants to prosecute members of the executive branch, they must appoint and fund a special prosecutor. They obviously know they have no case and so are trying to use inuendo and slander to accomplish that which they cannot accomplish legally.

The NRA war on rational gun laws is the cause of the agent's murder. Gunrunning was not much o a problem until the assault weapons ban expired, thanks to the NRA. And they have successfully blocked efforts to make gunrunning a crime. Fast and Furious was a stupid operation, because the gunrunners they were monitoring were not criminals in the first place. There is no federal law against gunrunning. Thanks, again, to the NRA. Ant even after the agent's death, they are still fighting to defend gunrunners:

Gunrunning not illegal ? Try selling, or outright giving, automatic weapons to Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, or even Israel and see how far you get. Maybe you could even trade them for drugs !

There are no federal laws against what was happening in Arizona. Congress is trying to change that , the NRA is fighting to protect the gunrunners.

Under current American law, you must have a class 3 firearms license to own automatic weapons. If sold, legally, they are easily traced.

In all, 100 assault weapons acquired under Fast and Furious were transported 350 miles from Phoenix to El Paso, making that West Texas city a central hub for gun traffickers. Forty of the weapons made it across the border and into the arsenal of Jose Antonio Torres Marrufo, a feared cartel leader in Ciudad Juarez, according to federal court records and trace documents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
