Just thinking ... Do we still have a 1st Amendment?

"The 1st Amendment was designed to be a shield to protect Americans from religious persecution, although groups such as the ACLU use it as a sword to take our rights from us. The central purpose of the 1st Amendment is to allow the freedom to worship God according to the dictates of one's conscience. In other words, without the acknowledgment of God, there would be no 1st Amendment.

On August 15, 1789, during the debate over the wording of the 1st Amendment, James Madison, the man known as "the Father of the Constitution" and who proposed the amendment in Congress stated the he "apprehended the meaning of the words to be, that Congress should not establish a religion, and enforce the legal observation of it by law, nor compel men to worship God in any manner contrary to their conscience.

Several of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention foresaw the very tactics the ACLU would use one day. Delegate Peter Sylvester of New York said, "He apprehended that it was liable to a construction different from what had been made by the committee. He feared it might be thought to have a tendency to abolish religion altogether."

Delegate Benjamin Huntington of Connecticut said: He feared, with the gentlemen first up on this subject [Sylvester], that the words might be taken in such latitude as to be extremely hurtful to the cause of religion ... He hoped, therefore, the amendment would be made in such a way as to secure the rights of conscience, and a free exercise of the rights of religion, but not to patronize those who professed no religion at all.

Today, the ACLU and other groups have put another spin on the 1st Amendment, an interpretation that has nearly destroyed its original meaning. Instead of allowing for the freedom to worship God, these groups have used the 1st Amendment to eliminate even the acknowledgement that there is a God entitled to be worshipped. In an attempt to establish secular humanism (the belief that mankind is god), judges, educators, and government leaders have certainly patronized those who profess no religion at all."

the constitution is a worthless piece of paper, if we the people do not fight for it. The bible is nothing more then worthless paper if we the people do not fight for it. The words I LOVE you are worthless unless our actions and beliefs are in accordance with the value and meaning of I LOVE YOU. The word trust is worthless unless one can trust you, as trust is earned and not just a entitlement. SO TELL ME AM I WRONG !

SO WITHOUT THE PEOPLE, THE CONSTITUTION AND FREEDOM ARE NOTHING .

Test: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

"Freedom of religion" has brought some judges to consider Sharia Law in their Rulings, and other things which aren't necessarily that good. When so interpreted, this makes the First quite dangerous. One might easily spend days debating this, and in fact almost all the entire Constitution, It all makes me just flubber my lip!

We really need to scrap the whole mess and start all over with a clean piece of paper.
Rule #1 -- NO Force. Rule #2 -- NO Rulers. The insanity is becoming so depressing!

What you are missing is the "establishment of religion" this means we are never to be ruled by religion one or another ... those who are pushing for Sharia Law are those who want stricter laws in America and their twisted understanding that more laws will make us safer and more moral.

Our founders did not want America to become like England where the people were the subjects of State and Church ... Parliment and the Church of England made all law.

The principles of our founders refer to morality ... believing in order for this newly formed country and constitution must have a sense of morality if we are to survive. They brought this forward through the teaching of Christ which reflects many of our moral laws ... thou shall not murder, though shall not steal, honor your parents, do not covet another's belongings, freedom to worship to a God, many Gods, or no God ... etc.

Standing up for people's rights if a good thing. Trying to remove what this nation was founded upon is not. And when you have an administration that is against the Constitution, there is a real problem.

I believe you are correct as we see the progressives, marxists, communists, globalist, of the NWO all working together to take it down along with the 1st Amendment.

It makes me heartsick to see so many who don't understand how important our Constitution is and how close we are losing it ... there is not much left in respect to what it means to be America the land of the free and the home of the brave.

"Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government." ~ James Madison

The Constitution has been given little more than lip service by those in the Oval Office, the legislature and the judiciary for years and it has only gotten worse in the past decade.

Daniel says it best. We must fight for what we believe in.

    I agree ...

"The ACLU began in 1917 as the National Civil Liberties Bureau to defend WWI draftees who claimed deferment as conscientious objectors. Founder Roger Baldwin was a member of the Communist Party who spent 9 months in prison for refusing to report for his own draft physical exam. In 1920, the bureau reorganized as the American Civil Liberties Union supposedly to defend civil rights. But one of its chief goals was the rejection of God and religion. Embracing atheism and a materialistic view of life, the ACLU undermined those absolute rights that Thomas Jefferson declared had come from God. By denying the existence of God, the ACLU denied the source of our rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Our rights afforded to Us by the Constitution have been slowly being removed in earnest since the Federal Reserve was slipped under our feet. This is the time to stand and make our Congress do their job and take over the economy like directed by the Constitution. Otherwise, We the People will have to follow our orders instead.

It started even a decade or two earlier with the implementation of the Progressive movement and the ACLU.
