June Jobs Report Shows Unemployment Has Remained Unchanged: Is This Good or Bad News for Obama?

The jobs number is a big factor in the election. The fact that the June number is flat is very interesting for the political landscape. Many pundits have suggested that President Obama is running against the economy, not Mitt Romney. But with the jobs growth number unchanged, Obama might actually have to run against Romney after all. Is the news good or bad for the President?

MONEY.CNN.COM reports:
Hiring was lukewarm last month, with employers adding jobs but not enough to bring the unemployment rate down.
money cnn reports hiring lukewarm employers adding jobs unemployment rate

More Americans were added to the disability roles than got new jobs last month and Obama and his Harvard educated economists promised 5.6% unemployment if he got his trillion dollar 'stimulus' package.

harvard educated economists promised 5 6 unemployment dollar stimulus package

Do the 50% of Americans that pay no federal income tax care?
    Unlikely.

Do the record setting number of Americans that receive government money care?
    Probably not.

Do the political activists that will vote Obama no matter what care?
    Of course not.

Does not matter what the facts are. 90% of the media will report these bleak numbers as good news. Fox and a few blogs will report it as bad news and most Americans will focus on Matthew McCaunaghey's new baby.

factcheck.org is a liberal website. Again, it is Bush's fault, and I agree to that, but then why hasn't the communist fixed anything? Answer that one?

You apparently don't read factcheck.org. They skewer "liberal" BS just as much as they do the righties. By the way, Mr. Neocon himself, Darth Vader Cheney actually cited factcheck.org as one of his sources.

Regarding why Obama[the president who proposed the massive handout to PRIVATE insurance companies called the Affordable Care Act] hasn't fixed anything..........Have you seen what the Republican House has done lately? NOTHING!

What are you talking about? So you are happy with the fact Obama couldn't run a circus. And all his promises are written in water!!! You must watch a lot of Tv. It's obvious where you're coming from. I can smell the racism from across the internet. I despised George Bush, but only because of his lies getting us into a war in Iraq. Obama has been subjected to abuse since he took office.

Can you really smell racism? Obama deserves to be questioned. He has crushed our Economy and his only plan is to spend more money. His mother was a communist, his father was a communist, he lived with Bill Ayers who tried blowing up the Pentagon and whom was a communist. He also belonged to a communist church for 20 years. As a child his mother had him spend time with Frank Marshall davis who is a communist. He grew up in Indonesia at a time where the nation was communist. And he said in his book he seeked out communist professors. Do you see a pattern? I doubt you even care. You just rather ignore the truth. Even if only half of what I wrote is true. We still have a problem!!
And why would he spend 3 million to hide his records?

I have no idea why the job numbers are going so slow but an improvement is an improvement. Personally I think its that the employers are maximizing their profits. If you look at 2 key indicators of how well the economy is doing it is getting better and jobs should be increasing. The NAHB has "The list of U.S. housing markets showing measurable and sustained improvement rose by four to include 84 metros in July, according to the National Association of Home Builders/First American Improving Markets Index (IMI)" and the stock market is at 12,736.37. When Obama took office it was at 8200. The simple fact is the economy is growing and jobs should be too.

Of course, NO improvement is also NO improvement, and even when we consider the utterly duplicitous reporting of our Fraudulence-in-Chief's own Executive Branch (like they're ever gonna tell us the unvarnished truth, right?) the "job numbers" have been worsening in the productive - PRIVATE - sector of American society with grinding inexorability since our "Never let a crisis go to waste" simulacrum of a lawful President first propped his filthy feet up on the Resolute desk.

To the extent that anybody reading here actually believes that the employment situation in these United States has gone anywhere but into the sewer under the influence of our Marxist Messiah - or that housing has rebounded (to re-inflate Greenspan's bubble), or that prices in the stock market have shown anything other than the effect of Odumbo's GINORMOUS dump of fiat currency into the economy....

Well, heck. I've got a real estate opportunity for you along the scenic East River in the bustling metropolis of New York City, a landmark construction in fantastic condition with an immediate potential for high revenue. Location, location, location - and they certainly don't build 'em that way anymore.

Cash only, of course. And small bills for preference.

I'm a bit dismayed to hear still one more Obama hater insinuating that the PRIVATE sector is the only productive sector. If we left our economy up to just the PRIVATE sector, we'd have 40% unemployment. Companies are sitting on trillions and playing the waiting game while our economy screams for consumption.

Gawd, but I do love it when flaming idiots like this one open mouth (A) and shove foot (B) all the way in up to their pubic escutcheon.

Look, fumbledoofus, any job in the public sector (the government) is fundamentally dependent upon profitable enterprise in the PRIVATE sector (the voluntary exchange of goods and services among the citizenry).

Especially in a republic such as ours, the activities of government are BY LAW precluded from generating profits. We're not in Communist China, where the Red Army is unarguably the biggest "corporation" in the economy.

You got that? An economy can only expand if new wealth is generated. The bigger the wholly parasitic government sector becomes (both relatively and absolutely) the LESS the economy can grow.

I really feel loved, thanks for the verbal barrage. It's a fact that a huge part of our unemployment numbers is due to drastic cuts in public sector jobs. These cuts have been at the State level, and they were most severe in GOP controlled states. Look it up!!!! These job losses contributed mightily to a loss of consumption, meaning more job losses. Public sector layoffs in a weak economy creates disaster.
  • Mathmn Rich Ma... 2012/08/10 18:35:02

Hey, Mr. Flaming Idiot expert. We live in a consumption based economy. When consumers have no money, our economy fizzles and eventually dies. The godlike private sector has done squat to help the situation. We need public sector jobs so that more people will have more money to spend., hence they can buy the products and services from the private sector. if increasing sales doesn't generate new wealth, then what does it do? Also, when more people work, more revenue is collected. It takes BOTH in today's economy. That was my point.

Companies have only one mission.....create profit for their shareholders. They want certainty and will never get it while the economy flounders. Republicans are always crowing about small business. Those businesses create jobs, too and lack of consumption is causing disaster there. [Unless you consider the booming economy in the D.C. metro area, fueled by...now let's say it together... GOVERNMENT SPENDING!!!!!!!

Last but not least, please refrain from profanity on this site.

So you want Government to create agencies to waste our money. Have you heard about GSA and there outrageous parties. Have you heard about the 100's of vacant building the government own but won't sell. Government wastes money. And federal jobs get outrageous benefits as well. No one should be able to work for just 20 years and retire with full benefits. Meanwhile, they are way over payed making $30/hour at a job that should probably making $20/hour, with unlimited sick days.

The private sector promotes the free market and capitalism. Do you not believe in rewarding hard work. Government jobs do not promote hard work. Once you are in, you are in. Come on, government job contracts are bankrupting states.

And another reason companies aren't hiring is because of your boys healthcare plan. The cost are spiraling out of control and they do not want to be liable to provide healthcare for more employees then they have too. Its just a fact. Obama did it to himself. This country is going to go bankrupt if Government get any bigger. The private sector supports America. Hello, Mic Fly!!

So we should create more federal jobs right. And how are government pay checks paid? From taxes. The private sector makes us free. More government jobs just means higher taxes. Obama's plan to put trillions into government jobs like construction workers and teachers is dumb. When the money runs out the economy will flatten out again. Small business's make a strong economy.
  • Mathmn mike 2012/08/10 18:40:13

Small business can't succeed without customers. They won't have customers when there are few jobs. If we depended solely on the Private Sector, we'd all be out of work. Corporations by nature care only about profits, not creating jobs. When the consumption dollars flow, all businesses prosper and more taxes are collected.

"Tax the rich and the rich will not provide the middle class with jobs."

"the rich" tend - by definition - to be the people with the greatest material and intellectual resources with which to EVADE confiscatory taxation.

As demographics in California are proving, when a local or state government seeks to pillage them by way of high rates of taxation, THEY LEAVE. Indeed, they suffer real capital and operational costs to move their profitable enterprises away from the jurisdictions of predatory governments.

Examine the (former) industrial districts of Rust Belt cities all over the eastern and midwestern United States, and you'll see how city governments drove such productive activities OUT beyond their boundaries, creating the "ring city" effect so common today.

Sometimes the contrast is stark. On one side of the city line, there is bustle and shopping, jobs and relative prosperity. On the other....

Well, it's kinda like those 1950s "Alien Invaders" movies, where all is desolation, desertion, echoing emptiness.

Guess which side is "served" by City Hall.
