June Jobs Report Shows Unemployment Has Remained Unchanged: Is This Good or Bad News for Obama?

The jobs number is a big factor in the election. The fact that the June number is flat is very interesting for the political landscape. Many pundits have suggested that President Obama is running against the economy, not Mitt Romney. But with the jobs growth number unchanged, Obama might actually have to run against Romney after all. Is the news good or bad for the President?

MONEY.CNN.COM reports:
Hiring was lukewarm last month, with employers adding jobs but not enough to bring the unemployment rate down.
money cnn reports hiring lukewarm employers adding jobs unemployment rate

More Americans were added to the disability roles than got new jobs last month and Obama and his Harvard educated economists promised 5.6% unemployment if he got his trillion dollar 'stimulus' package.

harvard educated economists promised 5 6 unemployment dollar stimulus package

Do the 50% of Americans that pay no federal income tax care?
    Unlikely.

Do the record setting number of Americans that receive government money care?
    Probably not.

Do the political activists that will vote Obama no matter what care?
    Of course not.

Does not matter what the facts are. 90% of the media will report these bleak numbers as good news. Fox and a few blogs will report it as bad news and most Americans will focus on Matthew McCaunaghey's new baby.

It is truly amazing how the disability rolls grow when people can't find work! However, 80,000 jobs is less than half the number needed just to keep even with new entries into the job market, approximately 200,000 jobs a month. Even if we credit Obama with the 4,000,000 new jobs he claims to have created, that's only an average of 95,000 jobs a month, still only half of the jobs required. The other factor is that the jobs that were created during the Obama administration have been heavily weighted toward government jobs, state, local and federal -- not the private sector jobs that actually create wealth but the kind that consume it.

I do seem to recall that statement. The private sector is doing fine and Obama wants to pumps billions more into the public sector where unemployment is around 4%, less than half that of the private sector!

I'm wondering how so many people who worked before can file for disability so quickly. Actually the unemployed rate is way higher than the government would like for Americans to know. The major news channels are not given the correct numbers, and neither are we.

You are right, there are two factors that go unreported. First, the percentage of the population participating in the job market has dropped from around 68% pre-Obama to approximately 63% in the Obama economy. If that 5% decrease were still in the job market I believe the unemployment rate would be over 12%. Also, they report what is known as the U3 rate, while the U6 rate, which includes underemployed and part time employment is more realistic - that rate is around 15%!

I agree. We all know the amount is incorrect. Radio, newspapers, TV etc: are not going to give us the true amount.

We shouldn't have Federal Income tax, the federal income tax was made for war times. It's not fair since we already have sales tax. Hell, I say that we down size the government and have ONLY sales tax.
This 2 sided "I vote for the party not the person" politics is starting to make me crazy. It's always Conservative this or Liberal that. If people would open their eyes and realize that these 2 sided politics are crazy, the country would be a much better place.

Just so you know, the idea of a sales tax "only" is not new, in fact, it is the only kind of tax authorized by the Constitution. The reason being, it is the only truly fair tax since it is based on how much you spend. Rich people spend more so they would pay more tax than poor people. Simple, efficient and fair.

The problem is that we will never see it again because the rich people who control the government don't want it and the 50% of the population that don't pay any income taxes at all sure as hell don't want it.

You are absolutely correct in that there are no parties, only the ruling class that we "elected" and the peons. (us) Both parties are on the same team and we are in the stands with no more control over the game than we would have at the Superbowl.

Do the number of Americans receiving government money (as in unemployment benefits) care? I'm quite sure they do, being that those benefits will run out one day. I'm sure most people out of a job would want nothing better than to have a job. I've been unemployed before under Reagan, and Bush Sr, and it wasn't any fun. I received unemployment compensation and wanted nothing more than to get regular employment. During that time I had no benefits, and if I would have had a health issue I would have been in a bad situation.

I'm not sure what stations you watch, but I haven't seen one yet that report the bleak numbers as good news. Either I hear them say, the jobless rate increased or decreased from last month. If it increased, that is a bit of good news, but if if decreased that's bad news. I've never heard any station report a decrease in the amount of jobs added as good news.

Obama needs to add 300,000 jobs per month to get the economy back in shape -- private jobs with real salaries, not government or short-term, half-pay employment.

I hear the IRS is hiring since Roberts decided that being invited to D.C. cockail parties was more important than upholding the constitution.

I for one would really like to know what it really took to buy Roberts vote. Alas, I have about as much chance of finding that out as there is a liberal realizing that someone has to pay for of the grand ideals they have.

It's always easier to promise people something for free than take away what they already have because we can no longer afford it. That's why we will never have a President or any other politician that will actually do what is necessary for America to survive. That would be political suicide because so few people (as a percentage) have taken the trouble to really see that not only is our Country bankrupt, our States, cities, counties and even all the way to the average citizen are bankrupt. When you have to borrow money to pay the interest on the money you already borrowed, it's game over. Our people and certainly our politicians are not smart enough to realize that other countries have taken their collapse like grown ups and were able to rebuild their economies. That will never happen here. What we will get after the dollar implodes is a totalitarian dictatorship. Maybe then our brain dead liberals will finally have what they have always worked for....total government control.

Spending never goes down regardless of which party is in power. Both of them spend all of the money they stole from us and every dime they can borrow. Since even that isn't enough, they create money out of thin air with a few keystrokes.

Unfortunately, that insanity is about to bite us in the ass very, very hard.
