June Jobs Report Shows Unemployment Has Remained Unchanged: Is This Good or Bad News for Obama?

The jobs number is a big factor in the election. The fact that the June number is flat is very interesting for the political landscape. Many pundits have suggested that President Obama is running against the economy, not Mitt Romney. But with the jobs growth number unchanged, Obama might actually have to run against Romney after all. Is the news good or bad for the President?

MONEY.CNN.COM reports:
Hiring was lukewarm last month, with employers adding jobs but not enough to bring the unemployment rate down.

More Americans were added to the disability roles than got new jobs last month and Obama and his Harvard educated economists promised 5.6% unemployment if he got his trillion dollar 'stimulus' package.

harvard educated economists promised 5 6 unemployment dollar stimulus package

Do the 50% of Americans that pay no federal income tax care?
    Unlikely.

Do the record setting number of Americans that receive government money care?
    Probably not.

Do the political activists that will vote Obama no matter what care?
    Of course not.

Does not matter what the facts are. 90% of the media will report these bleak numbers as good news. Fox and a few blogs will report it as bad news and most Americans will focus on Matthew McCaunaghey's new baby.

Reagan turned a struggling economy around whereas Obama successfully created a newlow bar for us. He wants us to look back and say "8.2% ain't bad considering where we were"! Reagan turned it around and gave us 20 years of prosperity!

Where do you get your "facts", a cracker jack box? I call total BS on your post.

Overall, job creation has been relatively meager during the Obama administration, particularly compared to the massive job losses brought on by the recession. According to the St. Louis Federal Reserve, even if job creation were happening at pre-recession levels, it would take us 11 years to get back to an unemployment rate of 5 percent.

It is what it is. The president is working with recessionary results that was 8 yrs in the making and has emerged with improvements as he took office but the damage has been done. It would not matter, at this point, who was in office. Jobs creation is hampered by at least two very important issues:

    1) We now live in a world that has India"s top 2% of their students outnumbering our total number of students.

    2) we live in a world that has the US at least one whole generation behind China's commerce and infrastructure on the world's largest continent. Those Africans are learning about Mao - not John Wayne.

Thirdly and most importantly - we're teaching our kids to be 'good employees' instead of running businesses. I was an engineer for almost 11 yrs and not once did I have a class on how to run a business. I'm finding out thru trial and error right now. I was qualified thru military service, and later from a previous 10 yrs in the business as a civilian working for DOD contracting for imagery based contracts.

The kids now days don't even know how to look for that kind of training nor for what. Their Liberal Arts degrees aren't worth the paper they're printed on. These kids are trained to be sales staff at Best Buy for a business model that is dying. THAT is one of the reasons f...

I don't pretend to like EVERYTHING about this administration but it beats inaction on the part of the GOP....time is the real enemy here; not fellow Americans. If these modern business and political practices were in vogue in 1941 - we'd be speaking Japanese in one part of the country and German in the other.

If you want to examine your claims here, you will realize that they are all related to the complete failure of the socialistic public school system. The problem isn't the United States of America, but it is the socialism we have adopted!
  • taitaFa... Andrew 2012/07/07 15:30:58
    taitaFalcon23
I'm not sure what 'claims' you're referring to but the jobs have been added to construction of a infrastructure; encouragement of entreprenuers, automotive manufacturing, auto parts manufacturing, and more... job growth is being experienced in the skills trades of:

    health
    computer applications
    petroleum
    insurance'
    legal services

None of these are socialist concepts. It's important to remember the difference between socialism vs communism. One system is an economic one and the other is a poltical one.

The economic model is hobbled by technology; it's steeped in blind profits and not paradigms of improvements of humanity; the most glaring examples are the 'big box' retailers like Best Buy.... they're dying because they're mired in the post WWII nostalgia. We're not there anymore... we're having to transition beyond that.

We live in a world where India's top 2% of their students outnumber our total number of students. We cannoit compete against that shortsightness. The current jobs situation is just an indicator of what's happening to us

India has over a billion people inhabiting their nation and they are not inhibited by a society that is aborting their unborn infants like this nation in which we live. Thereore, their population of young people is much larger than ours. Consequently, they are advancing while we are declining. We could turn that around, with a spiritual revival!

Communism and Socialism go hand in hand! Both are failed ideologies and always will be because they fail to recognize the need for individual liberties, freedom and ingenuity!

Issues like abortion are a side issues... their students don't excel just because they escape abortions. They excel because they're still 'hungry' and have decided to quit whining about their luck. While we are the other hand, whistle in the dark impressed with our own magnificence not paying attention to who's gaining on us... They're not digesting reams of gossip about the Kardashians, flunking high school english lit. and choking down Big Macs.

I bet you still regard any place outside of Topeka Kansas as 'third world' instead of the more accurate appellation that these are 'developing countries'.

These countries aren't spending their dollars nation building abroad; getting involved in unnecessary wars and butting into other people's business. We are, and have the deficits to prove it... We'd have them anyway, but not as high.

Lastly, I majored in political science - international relations and the truth is; socialism is not a failed system; communism is. Germany is carrying Europe almost alone on her back... that is not done with a failed economic system.

I am a dyed and true capitalist so I don't have a dog in this hunt here; I can just accept there is more than one way to skin a cat. Besides capitalism has it's own problems.. namely supply and demand issues. Those issues...

The jobs created since then were temp jobs like Christmas help; a few more government jobs that cost us money not put money into the Treasury. because it's like an airplane in a nosedive; recovering involves further loss of altitude. this economy was created by a president with house backing for a period of 8yrs.... now it's less genious to expect 1 man to fight the damage with a legislature hell bent on making sure he will be obstructed the entire way to do it in less than half that time. This economy was created by interjecting the Federal Government into the housing market, the housing market crashed taking our economy with it ; a guaranteed mortgage for people that were not credit worthy; many didn't even have a damn job; those Democrat "feel good" programs always fail (Amtrak, Post Office, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security) The foreclosures began on Bush's watch TRUE and Bush was a fiscal socialist but Economics 101; the Government can not force its way into the private sector, the consequences are always devastating.

that rate is the result that it moved from 10.1 to 8.1; how did that happen? because the GOP went around this president and 'fixed' everything? I don't think so... this changed in spite of them. It slowed down when this President was too successful for GOP comfort. They knew they botched things up bad and if it was fixed on this POTUS's watch... they also knew they would not get credit for it. The rate was indicating that things were improving and it was deliberately slowed to oust a party.. We will find out if Romney should win and things don"t change significantly

what good does it do to use the 'democratic' process to stalemate the process before it even gets started. For example; lets agree that we both have something of value that we want from each other. you propose that I give you every penny I have before I can see, touch or feel your 'item' of value. Naturally I balk at that; your response is that the transaction failed because I was being stubborn and would not listen to 'reason'... See anything wrong here....? This is our political process right now on both sides - the bystanders (you and me) are still out of the benefits of a successful compromise
