States offer a variety of special interest license plates that allow people to express themselves and help raise money for the state. North Carolina planned to issue a pro-life license plate that read, “Choose Life.” A federal judge ruled the special interest plate unconstitutional and banned North Carolina from distributing the plate unless it also offered special interest license plates promoting abortion rights.
The federal judge made the ruling in response to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of North Carolina Legal Foundation's lawsuit, which argued that the government cannot create an avenue to express only one side of a political argument.
California offers several special interest license plates that promote environmental causes, such as the Coastal Commission, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite Conservancy. California also offers a Memorial License Plates to promote law enforcement against terrorism. The ACLU has yet to file a lawsuit opposing these plates.
Does the ACLU's lawsuit and judge's ruling promote or censure free speech? Should State's have special interest license plates?

Honestly, I don't see how pro-lifers could support this. It's just a way of profiting from abortion.

PLEASE, let's have NEITHER . There's far too much abortion, abortion, abortion in the public arena! Adding it to license plates is just a distraction. This is one issue that just doesn't belong in politics, in my humble opinion. Can't we just let it go? What is the point?
This license plate says nothing about abortion. Wow people assume too much.
Would "Pro-lifers" defend the baby's life even if its an illegals?
Ty for your reply and insight :)

Dena Schlosser was merely exercising her religious freedom when she, doing as her God personally commanded her to, hacked off the arms and legs of her eleven month old baby daughter then calmly explained her actions to the 911 operator while listening to gospel music.

Andrea Yates was only doing "the right thing" when she came to the realization that because of the way she was raising her children, they could "never be saved," were "doomed to perish in the fires of hell" and subsequently drowned each of her boys in the bathtub.

Deanna Laney (self-professed "spiritual sister" to Andrea Yates) who managed to fatally bash two of her young boys' heads in and permanently brain damage the third with a rock "the size of a dinner plate," was merely obeying the wishes of her God, just as Abraham did when he was commanded to prepare his son Isaac for sacrifice on the alter or Jepthah when he, due to the circumstances of a miscast oath to God, had to make a burnt offering of his only daughter.

To the concerned motorists who tried to intervene and the police who eventually shot him, Sergio Casian Aguilar was a lunatic stomping and kicking his own son on a dark road side, but his only crime was trying to rid the world of a demon baby.

Joseph and Sonya Smith didn't whip their son with glue sticks and then lock him in a closet, no, of course not. That was Legion, the soldier of the devil! So any punishment they doled out to the child was in full self-defense! (The 'Legion' stuff isn't a joke, just read the links, lol).

Jeffrey and Marci Beagley weren't doing anything wrong when they chose prayer in place of medicine for their son's urinary tract infection, or their granddaughter's pneumonia and blood infection. Obviously if God had wanted either of them to live, HE would have cured them, not some Godless doctor!
This judges decision is just that of a Liberal....trying to keep others from their FREEDOM of speech.
But then we have a moron in he whitehouse that feels HIS VOICE IS THE ONLY VOICE THAT SHOULD BE HEARD......
I wonder when we start calling him DER FUHRER?

Ads on the sides of (and in the interior of) city/county buses have a long history of presence and they also change often. If there is an ad on a the side of a bus that is offensive to the public, it can be removed. License plates are produced by the states and are much more permanent. Maybe therein lies the difference? The ads on the sides of buses are not produced by the states and are not permanent, licensee plates are much more so.
Again, that is why we have bumper stickers.
oops.
as to the environmental license plates - - -
if someone wants to sue the state to include a license plate that says, "Screw the environment," I say let them do it. I won't hold my breath while I wait, though.
