Joran van der Sloot is best known as law enforcement's primary suspect in the case of Natalee Holloway, who vanished in 2005 while on a high school graduation trip in Aruba. However, he made headlines again when he was accused of murdering 21-year-old Stephany Flores five years later at a casino in Peru. While the Holloway case is still open, this week, Van der Sloot plead guilty to the murder of Flores.

Van der Sloot actually confessed to the crime in 2010, just a week after the crime was committed, but later tried to retract the confession and tied the issue up in courts once again. This time the 24-year-old claimed, "I want to plead guilty. I wanted from the first moment to confess sincerely. I truly am sorry for this act. I feel very bad." He could receive up to 30 years in prison, but hopes the confession will land him a lighter sentence. Do you think Van der Sloot should get a reduced sentence for pleading guilty to Stephany Flores' murder?

For who? Justice will never be served when there is a innocent man in jail.

This LOSER seems to think that just because he's from wealth that he's above the law and can do whatever he wants. He also seems to be proud of the murders that he's committed. He should spend the rest of his pathetic life behind bars where the likes of his kind belong.....

Joran has nothing to do with the dissapearing of Nathalee Holloway. Joran told me what happened and he didnt do it. He is my friend so I trust him, with my life.

Pleading guilty shouldn't give you a reduced sentence, because in the end you are STILL guilty and should pay the price.

Why did he confess? Because someone is threating his family. Hello, wouldnt you?

And you would know that how?

Or what if he confessed because there was simply no way to disprove it? Too many senarios, way too many.

He needs time to make peace with God. The families of these girls will never be at peace, even in he is 6 feet under. He needs to stay behind bars until he's so old that he dies in prison. (Hopefully he dies making mends with his Maker. We can only hope for his conversion.)

He should be placed in a maximum security prison for the remainder of his life or be turned over to the father of the young lady he killed.

That is the system, since the end of the era of public excecutions also known as becoming civilized jail was the prefered method.

You do know that murder is the offence with the lowest rate of reoffending. In other words, a person released on parole after serving time for murder is less likely to commit another murder. There is of course the exceptions.
  • Karl Pieter ... 2012/01/15 20:29:38
    Karl
I understand the "becoming civilized" part, and I don't think we should go back to cutting people's hands off for stealing an apple. But, I do feel in some cases, such as serial murders and rapists, that the death penalty is more appropriate.
  • Pieter ... Karl 2012/01/15 20:56:32

It starts with capital punishment for murder, then you add rape then later when you are nice and used to it you add armed robbery then corruption then later some nut gets into power and adds "anything considered to be unamerican" no,lets not go down that route.

Ok? You're more than welcome to have that opinion, but I don't see what you're trying to do here. If you honestly think that I'm going to magically change my views just because you say something isn't ok, then you must be rather naïve.

Stating that something isn't ok without any backing at all (religious, political, or otherwise) of why they feel that way is hardly a discussion.

and the rate of re offense for people who have been executed is 0% ! Restorative justice does not work , bending our system to better serve the criminals has only made it far more expensive and far less effective .

Nice try lib-tard . You want to pretend that people who get leniency do not work their way up to murder threw other violent crimes ...you may want to look up “cat” on here to support your posts she is 46 and has 50 convictions for violent assaults in 4 states but its never her fault ! She supports “helping” criminals just as you do....

You should try reading, then you may discover that very few murderers have previous offences. Its obvious you are not a cop and have very limited life experience.
