Vice President Joe Biden turned a Fourth of July celebration into a campaign stop to stress his deep roots in Pennsylvania, which has become a battleground state in this presidential election campaign.
After signing autographs for youngsters at the Little League field where he once played baseball, Biden went downtown to regale hundreds watching in camp chairs and blankets on a warm, sticky Tuesday evening with childhood stories.
He called the blue-collar, northeastern city of Scranton the "grit, sinew and soul of what freedom is all about."
"This county, this city, has gone through some tough times. It's had its heyday. It's come back," Biden said. "So many sons of Scranton have been knocked down, but they've gotten back up, time and time again."
He didn't make a reference during his 10-minute speech to his boss, President Barack Obama, or presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney. The event itself wasn't organized by the campaign _ Biden crashed Scranton's annual holiday celebration on a park dedicated to military veterans in between the federal and Lackawanna County courthouses.
Regardless, Biden tried to score points with voters in familiar territory, in a state that once again is seen as competitive in this fall's election _ even though Pennsylvania hasn't gone Republican since backing George H.W. Bush in 1988.
Obama is scheduled to campaign in Pittsburgh on Friday, his second trip to Pennsylvania this year. The visit coincides with the Obama's campaign release of a new TV ad in Pennsylvania this week that criticizes Romney's economic philosophies.
Biden on Tuesday was joined by another Scranton native, fellow Democrat and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, who is also running for re-election. There was no mention of the economy by either Biden or Casey _ but plenty of talk about the vice president's Scranton ties.
Also joining Biden onstage were his sister, Valerie Biden Owens, and son, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden. Wearing khakis and a light-colored dress shirt unbuttoned at the collar, the vice president spoke on a humid night under menacing gray clouds

No one in any party any where in the entire world fears Joe; he is, however, very very entertaining - His gaffs (or more rightly, his absurdities ) are priceless. Rather like ones crazy uncle talking hence the universal words applied to Joe by both parties in US; "That's just Joe" accompanied by a horse laugh

Just Some Real Facts About Mitt Romney That We Will Not Hear About from the Mainstream Media:
Mitt Romney:
After simultaneously graduating from both Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School, he passed the Michigan bar but never worked as an attorney.
As a venture-capitalist, Romney's first major business deal involved investing in a start-up office supply company with one store in Massachusetts that sold office supplies. That company, called Staples, now has over 2,000 stores and employs over 90,000 people.
Romney or his company Bain Capital (using what became known as the "BainWay") would go on to perform the same kinds of business miracles again and again, with companies like Domino's, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and many others.
Got your calculators handy? Let's recap:
Volunteer campaign worker for his dad's gubernatorial campaign 1 year.

That's a grand total of 28 years of unpaid service to his country, his community and his church. Why? Because that's the kind of man Mitt Romney is!
He inherited no money from his father, yet in 2011 Mitt Romney gave over $4 million to charity, almost 19% of his income. Obama, on the other hand, gave 1% and Joe Biden gave $300 or .0013%.
This is real contrast: real character versus . . . well, you know what!
Romney may not be the most conservative representative the Republicans could have selected, but at least you know what religion he is and that he won't desecrate the flag, bow down to foreign powers, criticize our country, or squander our hard-earned money on endless vacations and $100-per-pound Kobi beef steak dinners for him and his "friends."
I know Romney has the ability to turn around this financial debacle that the "Spending President" has purposely gotten us into. We didn't know when Obama said he'd give us "change," that he meant nickels and dimes, and that he and his cronies would get the big bucks -- our big bucks.
We're not going to like all the things necessary to recover from this hideous debt, but only a President with Romney’s business background, ethics, and personal character can do it.
On the "uncool" side, Romney was never a Community Organizer. He never did drugs or smoked pot or got drunk. He didn't associate with communists and terrorists. Neither for 20 years did he attend a church whose pastor called for God to damn the US nor did Romney "write" a phony autobiography.
If the economy continues to worsen and Obama's situation looks more precarious I predict that Obama will dump Biden at the convention and go with a VP candidate that might actually help him like Hillary Clinton.
American presidential nominee of the (ultra-liberal) Democratic Party Barack Obama, who was courting the Serbian ethnic vote by vaguely assuaging Serb concerns to deceitfully gain their trust in order to receive their electoral support, selected speech impaired, defective stutterer who could not finish a sentence Joe Biden as his running-mate. Biden, as many Serbs here will recognize, was instrumental in convincing Clinton to bomb the Serbs and is so fiercely anti-Serb that he has his own curriculum vitae when it comes to his hatred of everything Serbian. Aside from the bombing, Biden referred to Serbs as "<...> a bunch of illiterates, degenerates, baby killers, butchers and rapists".

How can anyone dislike this guy is beyond me?
/sarcasm off
"Biden crashed Scranton's annual holiday celebration on a park dedicated to military veterans in between the federal and Lackawanna County courthouses." Yep, sounds just like any other hometown guy.
As far as him being a normal hometown guy give me a break. He's vice President and lives in Washington most of the time or traveling at taxpayers expense. He doesn't have to worry about money or health care, he will get a fat pension for life and free health care. That a far cry from being a hometown guy.....
