People stopped looking for work so they don't count.
Also, I don't trust the numbers this close to an election.

I agree that a lot of people have stopped looking for work. It's possible that they're temps or have 'paid-per-call' work which wouldn't be considered as unemployed no matter how few jobs they get.

The full unemployment of this country is not properly tallied and not properly reported. Unemployment is actually over 14%.

They have no way of knowing because they don't any idea of the people that drop off unemployment rolls.Unemployment % is just the number of checks they write each period.

Actually, I think its the new filings for unemployment benefits. If there are fewer jobs to lose, doesnt it make sense that there would be fewer losing jobs. The numbers are just so bogus.

Its too soon to tell if its because people are getting jobs or if they just screwed up the numbers again.

That just means people have quit hunting for jobs. Might I ask where are these jobs if that really is the case?????
Bad news another 500,000 college graduates will be entering the work force this year, and next year, and next year, and so on......

All it means is that people have stopped claiming. Doesn't mean they all have jobs now.

Anything positive is a good sign. Will it last, who knows? The problem with asking this question here is that most on these bards have no idea that the rest of the world is having far worse issues than we are, and thus affects our economy as well. No matter what they 'want' the economy is tied to the larger world, because we cannot survive unless the rest of the world is dealing in our GDP

Jobless numbers are disgustingly high; they will go far higher once new taxes and policies kick in next year and they will continue to rise until this government gets a sense of sanity.

Considering for the last 80 weeks the unemployment stats have been corrected to the negative, I don't understand why they keep reporting them.

Never, but never believe the first set of numbers... Wait for it... The revised numbers are always worse.

As you know, Shep; unemployment numbers only show those who are actually COLLECTING or APPLYING for unemployment, not those who aren't collecting, don't qualify, or have exhausted their benefits.
