Jimmy Carter to Address Democratic Convention: Good Move by DNC?

The Democratic National Committee will honor former President Jimmy Carter with a prime-time speech during its national convention on September 4, 2012. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the 2012 convention chairman, released a statement: "A lifelong champion of human rights and investments in education and energy to spur economic development, President Carter will provide unique insight into President Obama’s ability to move our country forward and why we need his vision and leadership for a second term."

Mayor Villaraigosa and other Democrats must have overlooked how President Carter recently accused fellow Democrat President Obama of violating human rights. Carter wrote in the New York Times that Obama violated 10 of the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Carter considered it “disturbing proof of how far our nation's violation of human rights has extended.”

President Carter will make the address via video. Carter joins a growing list of Democrats who won't attend the Democratic National Convention this year. Kevin Price of the US Daily Review speculates that the candidates don't want to appear associated with unpopular Democrats including President Obama (D), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

The list includes: Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.VA.), Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.VA.), Rep. Mark Critz (D-PA), Rep. Kathy Hochul (D-NY), Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT), Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D-W.VA.), Rep. Bill Owens (D-NY), Rep. John Barrow (D-GA), Rep. Betty Sutton (D-OH) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX).

THEHILL.COM reports:
Former President Jimmy Carter will address the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina by video. The Democratic National Convention Committee announced Tuesday that Carter would address the convention by video on September 4.

Carter's shortcomings are numerous, so let's focus on the single worst: his midwifery of the Islamic Republican of Iran and the Muslim terror that has spread across the world.
Iran used to be a bulwark against communist expansion, and Shah Reza Pahlavi a crucial American ally. But Carter betrayed him.
Pahlavi was accused of human rights violations. Carter claimed that Pahlavi was torturing 3,000 political prisoners (mainly Soviet agents and their collaborators).
When Carter withdrew American support from the Shah during his hour of need, his government fell, and one of our most valuable friends was replaced by our bitterest enemy. Once the Ayatollah Khomeini had taken control, the 3,000 communists Carter had been whimpering over were promptly shot, along with 20,000 pro-Western Iranians. Khomeini executed more people in his first year in power than the Shah had been alleged to have killed in the last quarter century.
Then Khomeini's thugs — who included current Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad — invaded sovereign US territory and took everyone at our embassy hostage. Remember that? Americans remained in custody for 444 days, until the day Ronald Reagan was sworn in, ending the bleak and humiliating Carter era.

Probably not a good move. Carter does not represent today's neo-liberals very well. While I agree with Villaraigosa that Carter's vision is what the DNC needs, it sure as hell isn't the vision the DNC wants to promote.

This action by the Democrats will help the Republicans immensly because of the vast unpopularity of Carter and his wife.

I also hope the Democrats will have Reid speak at great length, Pelosi , Axlerod, especially Biden, and Soros and various muslim or islamist Obama supporters and a vast array of anti -Israel , anti-christian , planned Parenthood supporters, and pro-black liberation theology , pro black muslim , pro palestinian , any anti American groups , , anti American constitution groupies, any supporters of Obamas.

And I hope the American press will report each and every anti American constitution statement and sentiment loudly and honestly for all the nation to hear and read accurately .

War Criminal George Bush was the WORST President in US History. He slaughtered over 4,500 US Military Personnel and over 1 Million Iraqi Civilians so a few of his Rich Buddies could make money on oil and defense contracts. AND he collapsed the US economy by giving tax breaks to the Rich and promising jobs that never showed up. People DIED Bush LIED.

Ronald Reagan was another FAILURE as a President.
    -He raised taxes 8 Times.
-He cut and ran from Lebanon after 230 US Marines were Killed by Terrorists.
-He Funded Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban
-He armed Saddam Hussein with chemical weapons that he used on the Kurds.
-He traded weapons for hostages with Terrorists.

And you complain about Jimmy Carter ? What a joke !

Two great choices for 'Most Rotten', but I'm going with Bush Sr. He is as slimey as they come...and he is a great and well practised concealer of his sliminess. One must look deeply into his connections and his past to know how evil is this dude really. I recommend 'Family of Secrets', Russ Baker to see how the slime oozes to the surface in the republican party. Totally without scruples, ethics or morals these selfish goons.

i tend to think all of these men do not know anything about their own rpolitical heroes or religions and so they went along with it thinking just because the word religion is attached and so that makes whatever islamists say is good.

Same as christians and other religious or political factions .

Che Gueverra was a horrible amoral man who slaughtered his own country men just because he could and he enjoyed it. You won't see our soda "che" talking about that though will you? http://www.ihatethemedia.com/...
