Jimmy Carter to Address Democratic Convention: Good Move by DNC?

The Democratic National Committee will honor former President Jimmy Carter with a prime-time speech during its national convention on September 4, 2012. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the 2012 convention chairman, released a statement: "A lifelong champion of human rights and investments in education and energy to spur economic development, President Carter will provide unique insight into President Obama’s ability to move our country forward and why we need his vision and leadership for a second term."

Mayor Villaraigosa and other Democrats must have overlooked how President Carter recently accused fellow Democrat President Obama of violating human rights. Carter wrote in the New York Times that Obama violated 10 of the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Carter considered it “disturbing proof of how far our nation's violation of human rights has extended.”

President Carter will make the address via video. Carter joins a growing list of Democrats who won't attend the Democratic National Convention this year. Kevin Price of the US Daily Review speculates that the candidates don't want to appear associated with unpopular Democrats including President Obama (D), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

The list includes: Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.VA.), Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.VA.), Rep. Mark Critz (D-PA), Rep. Kathy Hochul (D-NY), Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT), Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D-W.VA.), Rep. Bill Owens (D-NY), Rep. John Barrow (D-GA), Rep. Betty Sutton (D-OH) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX).

THEHILL.COM reports:
Former President Jimmy Carter will address the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina by video. The Democratic National Convention Committee announced Tuesday that Carter would address the convention by video on September 4.

You are correct on all points! Jimmy Carter's "agreement" with the North Koreans was worth less than nothing - it provided for no means of verification. The NK's, as you say, continued their development and announced their successes during the Bush administration.

You realize, of course, that accusing somebody of being senile when they're not is merely an Ad Hominem attack?

That anybody with two brain cells firing realizes you just start off to smear your victim instead of presenting actual arguments?

That kind of taints your argument.

Yes, Carter campaigned for peace. He knew, even as G.H.W. Bush did, that invading Iraq would be incredibly risky. He tried to build an Arab movement to put pressure on Saddam to pull back without need for War.

Imagine a US President actually DUMB enough to invade Iraq... it's called the "Graveyard of Empires" because EVERY Empire that has invaded Iraq draws back a bloody stump.

Fortunately we'd never elect any President THAT dumb.

I have to admit that the Iraq invasion totally baffles me. Afghanistan, also.

I'm giving the man the benefit of the doubt in attributing his actions since he left office to senility -- otherwise one would have to charge the man with treason, and being an anti-Semite for the positions he has taken. Contrary to the generally accepted rule, Jimmy Carter has seen fit to criticize every single president since he left office, despite the abject failure of his own presidency on all fronts.

Imagine every single top Democratic leader agreeing with George W. Bush, even before 9/11, that Saddam Hussein was a danger not only to the region but to the U.S. as well, and imagine them calling for exactly what George W. Bush did, after obtaining the approval of congress -- you don't have to imagine that because it is all true. Here are around fifteen pages of quotes from Democrats in the 1999 - 2001 time frame saying the exact same things Bush said: http://www.snopes.com/politic...

While you are at it, imagine that "Graveyard of Empires" that had been under the heel of a murderous tyrant for over three decades, with his sons maintaining "rape rooms" for their own sadistic pleasure, now having the chance to have a democratic society.

Drink the Cool-aide, S and S. Drink DEEP.

Hey ! You'll LOVE the story I found today. It's a theory that Barack Obama Jr. isn't the son of Barack Obama Sr.

The gist is, he's the illegitimate son of Frank Marshall Davis ! Isn't that a GREAT theory?

Oh, it does kill the "born in Kenya" and "not a citizen because he didn't have two American parents" theories.

Takes one to know one: Inept ineffective Presidents. Jimmy Carter's inability to deal with the Iranian Hostage Crisis emboldened future generations of jihadists. Obama's smoke and mirrors show is placing the country in an insurmountable debt. We're in more deep trouble if he gets another term. iranian hostages

Yep, that was the headline. Of course, it should have said "Reagan bribed Iran to delay releasing hostages, in exchange for selling them weapons".

It's never a good move to have the peanut farmer speak before people that that actually read, write and understand English. In 1981, Ford said: "I think Jimmy Carter would be very close to Warren G. Harding. I feel very strongly that Jimmy Carter was a disaster, particularly domestically and economically. I have said more than once that he was certainly the poorest president in my lifetime." 31 Years later opinions change, Jimmy Carter is the 2nd poorest president.

Don't worry, the "edited" textbooks Texas orders will solve the pesky problem of facts and history interfering with Right Wing Views.

    It's called "Knowledge-Based Education".

The official Party Platform of the Texas GOP:

"Knowledge-Based Education – We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.

See? You teach the kids what you want them to believe, not how to figure stuff out on their own. THAT could undermine parental authority.

And the Texas GOP says that's bad.

Look at the graph of High School graduation rates. It's sweet.

parental authority texas gop graph high school graduation rates sweet

Harding cut taxes on the Rich, setting us up for the Crash of 1929. Carter raised interest rates, to cut Inflation.

This does not rise to the same standard.
