Jimmy Carter to Address Democratic Convention: Good Move by DNC?

The Democratic National Committee will honor former President Jimmy Carter with a prime-time speech during its national convention on September 4, 2012. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the 2012 convention chairman, released a statement: "A lifelong champion of human rights and investments in education and energy to spur economic development, President Carter will provide unique insight into President Obama’s ability to move our country forward and why we need his vision and leadership for a second term."

Mayor Villaraigosa and other Democrats must have overlooked how President Carter recently accused fellow Democrat President Obama of violating human rights. Carter wrote in the New York Times that Obama violated 10 of the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Carter considered it “disturbing proof of how far our nation's violation of human rights has extended.”

President Carter will make the address via video. Carter joins a growing list of Democrats who won't attend the Democratic National Convention this year. Kevin Price of the US Daily Review speculates that the candidates don't want to appear associated with unpopular Democrats including President Obama (D), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

The list includes: Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.VA.), Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.VA.), Rep. Mark Critz (D-PA), Rep. Kathy Hochul (D-NY), Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT), Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D-W.VA.), Rep. Bill Owens (D-NY), Rep. John Barrow (D-GA), Rep. Betty Sutton (D-OH) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX).

THEHILL.COM reports:
Former President Jimmy Carter will address the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina by video. The Democratic National Convention Committee announced Tuesday that Carter would address the convention by video on September 4.

Because once you confuse Politics for Religion, your opponent becomes the Devil.

Then your only remaining choice is to tell lies about him, smear his name, and make up crap.

Because otherwise, all the kids might have sympathy for the devil, and refuse to join your Religion.

If you opponent does anything good, deny it.

If he brought Inflation down, deny that too.

Claim his programs didn't work, and reap the benefits yourself when they pay off.

This sounds exactly like the libs reaction to the incredible successes of the Reagan Administration, in foreign policy and domestic economic policies..... lie about the guy when he was in office, keep lying for the next 30 years, because the left has no comparable successes to point to....lying is the only option open to them.

Even FDR, the liberal icon, reportedly lengthened the Great Depression for 7 years with his economic policies. AND placed the Japanese-Americans behind barbed wire, simply because of the color of their skin. Even the FBI, hardly the most progressive institution under Hoover, said it was unnecessary.

Yes because most Democrats today weren't old enough or even born when he ran out economy into the ground. He actually drove me out of the party for a while. I spent time as a Larouchie and as a Libertarian because of "Jimmeh Cahter"
He cries a good sob story an may win some softhearted (and weak-minded) votes for BH Obama.

    Wow. A Larouchie.

I really feel sorry for you. That must have been a dark time in your life.

I remember Larouch giving a speech on TV about his "missile defense" plan.

    Lasers, Satellites, very Star Wars.

Unfortunately, putting lasers in orbit would be incredibly costly; they require refueling with lasing gases.

So, either you never test them, and HOPE the gases don't leak out before you need to swat down a missile, or you test them to make sure they work, and have to refuel them.

The entire fleet of Shuttles couldn't have kept up with the demand launching once per month. Which was a lot more frequent than we ever pushed it.

Jimmy Carter came in on very high inflation rates, and determined the only way to reduce them was to raise interest rates. That reduced the amount of money in circulation, but it caused a short Recession.

In case you hadn't heard, there's reason to believe that Reagan's front men negotiated with the Iranian Government NOT to release the Iranian hostages until Reagan was elected.

And they released the hostages promptly, didn't they?

If it hadn't been for the sandstorm, Carter's helicopter raid to rescue the hostages would have succeeded. Reagan wouldn't have been elected, and we wouldn't have this huge National Debt today.

Reagan almost tripled the Debt all by himself. HW Bush doubled it, and of course, Bush II did his VERY best.

He was a horrible president. caused a depression, then did nothing to end it. the only reason he got elected was his military record. four years of glory, but the rest was a joke.

Yes, I just love the idea of reminding America of the failures of the man after whom Obama has patterned his presidency! Jimmy Carter's "malaise" has nothing on the real malaise that Obama has created in America, and putting Jimmy front and center will keep those failures from and center in the minds of the American people. Great Move!!! jimmy obama

That's why we try not to remind Republicans of Nixon, who was an actual criminal, and G.W. Bush, who failed to protect America from attack despite multiple warnings.

We think it would hurt their feelings.

Well, dude, it's up to you to prove it.

Because to the rest of us, you're foaming at the mouth about things you IMAGINE President Obama MIGHT have done.

Nixon paid GOP operatives to break into the Democratic Headquarters and look for ... something. Blackmail material?

What crimes do you imagine Obama has committed?

Because I have to tell you; there are THOUSANDS of well funded GOP operatives DESPERATELY searching for something to use.

Sheriff Joe even sent his deputy to Hawaii, on the taxpayer's dime. To find... something. Anything.

And if these brave GOP investigators had found anything; anything at all; they would have used it.

The proof that the Birthers are idiots is that they never realized that the GOP was in there before they even had the idea, and realized there was nothing to use.

Sheriff Joe even blamed the Republican Candidates for not pressing the Birther angle; they probably smirked and told each other "look, a useful idiot".

That's right, genius. That's why Nixon was not asked to speak at Ford's convention, and why G.W. did not speak at McCain's.

Find me a Republican who calls Nixon a "statesman" like Dems do for that fool Carter.

And if you think Bush could have stopped 9/11 from happening, you are deluded.

The source of the left's hatred of Nixon was his success in the prosecution of Alger Hiss, and his 'outing' of secret communists in the New Deal. Joe McCarthy started his anti-communist campaign immediately afterwards... the fact that it was fashionable for intellectuals to be Communists during the 1920s and 1930s, and that after the fall of the Soviet Union McCarthy was proven absolutely correct in his assertions of Communist penetration of the government and Hollywood did nothing to reduce the hatred of the Left toward both men.

As far as Bush43 being a 'war criminal', Obama has continued most of the policies of the previous administration, and even started an extra war or two.

Elder statesman? How about senile interferer!!! When G.H.W. Bush was attempting to put together the coalition that eventually drove Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait in the First Gulf War, Jimmy Carter was actually phoning foreign leaders urging them not to join the coalition - a treasonous act! When it was learned during the Clinton administration that North Korea had nukes, Jimmy Carter popped up in Pyongyang and "solved" the problem. The trouble is, Jimmy obligated the U.S. to give North Korea billions in aid, in return for the naked promise to quit developing the nukes, with no means of verification. Clinton was furious but he couldn't back out without humiliating America. Jimmy Carter has been an even worse ex-president than he was president!

Carter got the NK's to agree to stop working on one type of nuclear device. Thinking he'd solved the problem Carter was devastated to learn they simply started working on a different type of nuclear device. He pretty much took the possibility of solving the NK problem once and for all away from Clinton. Not many people remember that Carter served in the Nuclear, or should I say Nucular Navy, so he should have had the expertise to craft a more airtight agreement with the NK's.
