Jimmy Carter to Address Democratic Convention: Good Move by DNC?

The Democratic National Committee will honor former President Jimmy Carter with a prime-time speech during its national convention on September 4, 2012. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the 2012 convention chairman, released a statement: "A lifelong champion of human rights and investments in education and energy to spur economic development, President Carter will provide unique insight into President Obama’s ability to move our country forward and why we need his vision and leadership for a second term."

Mayor Villaraigosa and other Democrats must have overlooked how President Carter recently accused fellow Democrat President Obama of violating human rights. Carter wrote in the New York Times that Obama violated 10 of the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Carter considered it “disturbing proof of how far our nation's violation of human rights has extended.”

President Carter will make the address via video. Carter joins a growing list of Democrats who won't attend the Democratic National Convention this year. Kevin Price of the US Daily Review speculates that the candidates don't want to appear associated with unpopular Democrats including President Obama (D), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

The list includes: Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.VA.), Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.VA.), Rep. Mark Critz (D-PA), Rep. Kathy Hochul (D-NY), Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT), Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D-W.VA.), Rep. Bill Owens (D-NY), Rep. John Barrow (D-GA), Rep. Betty Sutton (D-OH) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX).

THEHILL.COM reports:
Former President Jimmy Carter will address the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina by video. The Democratic National Convention Committee announced Tuesday that Carter would address the convention by video on September 4.

I think Jimmy Carter would have made a good clergyman; not a President. He may be intelligent, but I disagree with his political views and if you read the book by the Secret Service, he was the most rude and cold President to them. He would pretend to carry his own bags for a photo op-I will try to find you the title and author. Not such a great man.

In the President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes with Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect by Ronald Kessler. Read this and you will learn alot about Carter.

Okay, I am sure he was charming to you, but why would the author of the book say what he did about Carter if it were not true? They also said that Lyndon Johnson was crazy and if you read it, you will agree.

The timing might be perfect... Carter gets his mug in the spotlight at the same time Iran goes nuclear. Thanks Jimma....

It will be one of the biggest turnoffs I have ever seen. I guess birds of a feather stick together. Carter was the worst President in my lifetime until Obama came along.

It took Reagan to turn around the train-wreck of the Carter Administration. I certainly hope that Romney is up to the far greater task awaiting him, assuming he wins in November.

I hope so also but we know for sure Obama can't do it. But if we don't get people like Reid, Polosi and Schumer out of positions of authority it might be useless anyway.

Perhaps they are trying to say in their own way that President Obama isn't that bad, it could be worse. I don't think that will work. While President Carter was a failure, I don't think anyone ever doubted that he did his best for the country.

President Obama essentually does what is best for him and his supporters. Both were spectacular failures for the conomy due mainly because both believed that government was the solution, not the problem.

I'm thrilled to know the Godfather of failure is going to take the Dumbocrat Convention on a trip back to 1978 and remind them how to really dismantle this country. Perhaps Carter can offer the formula on how to produce 1.21 gigawatts of power to the socialist flux capacitor.

And of course you say this as the only sane person on SodaHead. If Carter was the only sane president over the last thirty+ years then we are truly in trouble in this country. I don't think that Carter was 'insane", he was just inept.
  • Dave Rod 2012/08/11 04:57:08
    Dave
And Reagan through Obama have been what? Sorry - Carter was not inept. He wasn't a good actor and he was honest.
  • Rod Dave 2012/08/11 12:49:45
    Rod
If you are trying to compare Carter with Reagan, or even Clinton, and infer that Carter was the best of the lot, then it isn't Carter that's insane or inept, it's you. Look at Carters record for crying out loud. Nixon was better than Carter. The only one worse than Carter is Obama.
  • Dave Rod 2012/08/13 03:20:04
    Dave
Listen - every president after Carter has lead us to where we are today. Oh, but I forget you are some rich corporatist who has benefited from Reagan, Bushes, Clinton -- -and yes - Obama too!

Just go sit by your pool and drink your martinis.
  • Rod Dave 2012/08/13 12:51:31
    Rod
I don't have a pool, I don't drink martinis and I am absolutely not rich. I do however remember lines at the gas stations, out of control inflation (17%), out of control unemployment (actual 12.5%) plus we had the Iran hostage situation that went on for almost two years. Jimmy Carter supported legalized abortion do you want me to go on? Ronald Reagan got us out of the Carter mess and now Obama is trying to get us right back there.
  • Dave Rod 2012/08/14 04:26:17
    Dave
Reagan did NOT get us out of Carter's mess - he stalled it. Reagan sold arms to get the hostages, and Carter was attempting to get us off oil -- Reagan increased the demand.

I'm sure you see Reagan as a hero - but all he did was throw the life jacket in the water - he didn't save the drowning man and neither did Bush, Clinton, and W and neither is Obama. Abortion? Is that really your biggest concern? What about gay marriage - that's got to rate up there too, huh? lol
  • Rod Dave 2012/08/14 11:01:06
    Rod
Carter was trying to get us off oil? How old are you anyway? 10? How do you get us off oil? By forcing everyone to walk? Reagan did get us out of Carters mess and it was a mess. I was there, I lived it. During Reagan's administration unemployment went down from Carters high of 12% unemployment to a low of 5%. What about gay marriage? Are you saying that killing babies somehow equates to gay marriage? You are obviously gay, so I understand your frustrations. I don't care what your sexual orientation is, just become more informed about other issues, especially history.
  • Dave Rod 2012/08/16 06:25:56
    Dave
lol You are ridiculous. First off - I'm a lot older than you. Reagan got us out of Carter's mess? He sold arms to do it and paid ransoms on US citizens through arms dealing. Check out your stats regarding unemployment between Carter and Reagan over their administrations. Oooooh - okay - I'll give you this Reagan had two terms.

I'd love a list of the books that you read regarding history. Give me a list.
  • Rod Dave 2012/08/16 14:52:13
    Rod
First of all you can"t be a "lot" older than I am. As a matter of fact I would guess that you are probably 15 or 16, at the very least you are under 21, no doubt about it. No one as ignorant as you are about peanut farmer Carter has read much history about Carter or any one else for that matter. I'm not sure that you can even read, period. Good luck to you in the future. With the lack of ability that you have you will need a lot of luck.
