What's a mood disorder? Ask Jesse Jackson Jr. According to his office, the Democratic Representative from Illinois is "receiving intensive medical treatment at a residential treatment facility for a mood disorder." But don't worry: he's "expected to make a full recovery."
So, what does having a mood disorder even mean? There was a time when they used to call it having a "nervous breakdown," but now the description for the mental illness has been replaced with something much more clinical and politically correct. "Mood disorders" can either stem from depression or mania and when combined, can even lead to bipolar disorder. But calling it a "mood disorder" is opening up a whole new can of worms. Do you think the disorder is legitimate -- or is it just a simple case of stress and anxiety?

Rep. Jesse Jackon Jr.’s exact diagnosis isn’t known; “mood disorders,” however, generally come as either depression or mania, or a combination of both.

- TruBluTopaz 2012/07/13 13:19:40Fabricated+1Mood disorder is the new exhaustion. Remember all those celebrities back in the day that were hospitalized for the dread disease of exhaustion or sometimes "nervous breakdown?" Those were euphemisms for what is now commonly called addiction. I remember thinking "wow, I'm tired, a rest in the hospital sounds nice...." I've heard other speculations that it's alcoholism or even that there are some allegations about to show up which JJJr might be dodging....reply

That's done quite often. Decades ago, alcoholism was labeled a habit then reclassified as a disease so it could be covered by insurance.reply
