In addition Walker made it possible for the districts to manage their budgets enabling them to offset the reduced state aid. Obviously you do not believe anything anyone says about savings. The savings have been collected & posted at http://www.reforms.wi.gov/ by county. Check it out yourself.

..First the Governor does not lay off teachers. Since he couldn't have done it you are wrong again. Now lets talk about the number, 2312. Where did you get this number? The vast majority of said reduction was from retirements.

..For 2003, WEAC reported 69 percent of school districts laid off teachers, 68 percent increased class size, and 51 percent cut back extracurricular activities.
For 2005, WEAC reported 62 percent of school districts laid off teachers, 74 percent increased class size, and 54 percent cut extracurricular programs.
For 2006 WEAC reported 62 percent of districts laid off teachers, 75 percent increased class size, and 56 percent cut extracurricular activities
For 2011, 31 percent of school districts laid off teachers, 59 percent increased class size, and eight (8) percent reduced extracurricular programming. Better in every category; much better both for the kids and for the teachers, since Walker took office.
WI DPI reports on 1,446 fewer teachers.
The reports I saw showed that the vast majority of layoffs occurred in the districts that rushed through their contracts before Act 10 passed.

..Funds are cut because the state can;t afford it. The layoffs are not a result of the cuts but the restrictive union contracts. Gov Doyle cut funding for schools in 2010. Result massive layoffs. The Walker cuts did not lead to massive layoffs. In fact the majority of districts have added; classes, teachers, staff, and still posted savings.

"You call retiring teachers greedy, because they took their rightful benefits instead of staying to teach." If the teachers were as dedicated to teaching as we are led to believe, they would have continued to teach. The fact that they take a retirement thinking that the size of their benefit package will not be as lavish as the unions finagled out of the schools. Working for wages & benefits also reveals them as not as dedicated teachers as touted. Same thing happened in the Milwaukee county board when they got a huge benefit package. As soon as that got changed a bunch retired. The fact that the teachers all still have jobs and there are even more is proof that the claimed hate is a construct of the left for the purpose of making people feel bad for the "poor put upon" teachers. As well as demonizing the people that are working to prevent the collapse of the state. You think that no matter the cost to the state that the unions should be able to force the state to capitulate to the unions demands, and allow the unions to STAEL money from the state.

Sorry child I call no man master! Unions are not some alien entity, but they are succubi. Unions are no longer a collective of workers. Were that the case the public unions would not be bleeding members in WI. One, at least, lost 2/3 of its members. Clearly they are not pleased with what the union is "doing" for them.
