Republicans announced that Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida, will address the GOP at its presidential convention scheduled for late August. The brother of President George W. Bush and son of President George H. W. Bush enjoys support from conservatives and Floridians alike. The Republicans can benefit by energizing their base and winning the battleground state of Florida.
Democrats just announced that President Carter will address the DNC despite his criticism of Obama's human rights record. Many Democrats feel skeptical about having Carter speak in prime time because Carter lost re-election in a landslide to President Ronald W. Reagan.
Should the Republicans feature President George W. Bush at their convention? President Bush, the 43rd president, won re-election in 2004. President Obama ran a successful campaign in 2008 against John McCain by attacking Bush policies. Obama could try to link Mitt Romney to Bush and the recession.
