Israeli Arab Speaks out on life in Israel

Michael Grant (Sunday Herald-Scotland)

Glasgow Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal is an Arab from Haifa. He knows that for many who are unfamiliar with Israeli society it is surprising, even startling, that an Arab could integrate and prosper so successfully there.

"What the television shows about Israel is totally different to what happens. The life between the Jews and the Arabs is very good. I'm an Arab and my agent is Jewish but we're like family."

"The Jews and the Arabs live together in Haifa, which is a mixed city. Maccabi Haifa has seven or eight Arab players and that's normal. The only difference is their religion, but there's no conflict."

media lie - they want to show Israel as apartheid-country and hide the fact that Israels enemies are apartheid societies, where all non islamic get opressed or killed.

I have been to Israel and know what you say is the truth. I believe a great deal of the problem is the media and extremists. Thank you for posting this, I hope it opens many eyes.

How excellent that this is a man who plays for Celtic FC, a club which until recently was defined by the violence between it and Rangers FC along Catholic/Protestant lines. With Christianity dying in Scotland, so too has the past religious hatred between these two great rival clubs.

I hope that the rest of Mr Kayal's life, when he returns to Israel, continues to be marked by the same sort of peace and respect which he talks about here!

That's true. They get the usual cover up. I like to post things like this because most people who hate Israel have no clue what it's really like in Israel. These articles get few comments. But hopefully (with my title) some will stop by and at least read.
