Violence has escalated sharply between Israel and Gaza in the last 24
hours, with over 100 rockets and mortar shells from Gaza striking
southern Lebanon, wounding three people. It's believed that the
terror group Islamic Jihad launched the attacks. Israel's prime
minister Benjamin Netanyahu is said to be preparing international
public opinion for an Israeli military operation into Gaza, perhaps
similar to Operation Cast Lead, Israel's 2008 invasion of Gaza.

According to defense minister Ehud Barak
"If we are forced to go back into Gaza in order to
deal Hamas a [serious] blow and restore security for all of
Israel’s citizens, then we will not hesitate to do so.
It is Hamas that will pay the price; a price that will be
painful."
There are reports that Egyptian intelligence officials have rushed
into the situation to broker an end to the violence, and there are
mixed reports about whether Islamic Jihad even wants the violence to
end. Jerusalem Post and YNet (Tel Aviv)

moira.faulds.14 2012/12/30 10:25:09+15These are very serious times in the Middle East, and what scares me the most is that people don't seem to realize that there can be no ceasefire until the Palestinians and the Islamic Jihad stop firing on Israel. They have made it plain they want to wipe them out. How can there be peace talks and ceasefires when one country refuses to cooperate? People are quick to criticize Israel for their military response to attempted genocide, and doesn't that sound familiar to anyone? Innocent people on both sides suffer, yet until the Palestinians are able to form a solid government and control their various terrorist and tribal factions, there can be no end to it. I am behind Israel and offer my prayers and support to the sons of David in this incomprehensible and grossly unfair dispute.

Nutty-yahooo is just itching for war and since he has called another election in Israel for January 22, 2013, he might just be eager to ratchet up the blood sacrifices from Palestine as he and Tzipi did before and during the last set of Israeli elections.
southern Lebanon,..."
Lebanon? That is not mentioned in either artical
Meanwhile, Viva Palestina and congratulations on statehood.
