Is voting for Mitt out of fear of Obama winning the Christian thing to do?

It has been quiet common for the terms: anybody but Obama, if you don't vote for Mitt you are voting for Obama, not voting is a vote for Obama, ect; in order to try and force people to vote for Mitt Romney instead of voting for third party or not voting at all.

What this comes down to, is that anyone that falls for these type of arguments are voting for Mitt Romney out of fear for Obama winning. This is what I termed a fear vote. So the question is: is voting out of fear the Christian thing to do.

Well in order to answer that question we must look at some bible versus.

2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Romans 8:15
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

1 John 4:8
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fearinvolves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

So clearly one must not make decisions based on the fear of man, but we are suppose to based on the fear of God. So no it is not the Christian thing to do to vote for Mitt out of fear of Obama. If you are a Christian and are going to vote for Mitt Romney should not be voting for him because you fear Obama, but because he is a reasonable person to vote for biblically. Now if you can resolve that he is a biblically acceptable candidate you have plenty of reason to vote for Mitt. But those of you out there trying to get people to vote for Mitt by the methods mentioned above you are using unChristian like tactics.

Not voting on facts, but rather made up crap sounds just like Christianity. No one seems to be voting for Mr Romney, but only against President Obama.

"Christian" or not, it is the only smart thing to do.

Anyone who has the common sense that God gave chickens knows that for the sake of our children and grandchildren Obama has to go.

I will go with a "fear" vote any day if it means Obama doesn't get elected again, and God and I will settle up later. If a third-party candidate takes votes from Romney and gets the big O in the WH again, the outcome will not be pretty.

You got one that's a sort of off-center Christian. You got another one that thinks churches should pay taxes and pay for other people's abortions whether they think it's murder or not. There's a lot more there for Christians to fear than who Romney is. They'll be voting against Obama in huge numbers.

    Mathew 7:
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
The fruits of Obama's labors are not good and he gathers thistles and thorns as his friends and the strife and lies that he tells so the bible would tell us to shun him and give him nothing. Therefore we should not give him our vote.

But that was not the point of this inquiry. I heavily agree no one should be voting for Obama. The point was that many are voting for Mitt out of fear that if they don't Obama will win. It is clear biblically that we should not be making decisions based on the fear of what man can do.
  • Uranos7 Adam 2012/06/18 10:16:36

It is not fear to see the false fruits he has produced thus far and vote against him based on that.
  • Adam Uranos7 2012/06/18 16:54:37

That only completes half the cycle of a reasonable voting that lacks fear. Those who don't vote out of fear actually stand on the record of the person the are voting for. It becomes a 2 fold process. The guy that is in should not be, the guy that should be in is who I am voting for. Unfortunately most are only taking the first have of the last sentence.

    It's neither.

What you term 'fear' could easily be an honest appraisal of the field and a recognition that there could not possibly be anyone worse than the disgusting snake, Obama. What you term 'fear' could easily be nausea. What you term 'fear', could be brilliant confidance.

It hasn't anything to do with Christianity at all. Nice try.

It won't deflect attention from the fact that:

What you say here is making a disingenuous assumption for the sake of forcing others to draw the conclusion you want them to draw:
"... anyone that falls for these type of arguments are voting for Mitt Romney out of fear for Obama winning...

"Fear" has nothing to do with observing the behaviors, performance, non-productivity or with assessing what appear to be the goals of an administration.

Some of us do not make important decisions based on emotions, namely in this case, not on fear.
  • Adam Walt 2012/06/13 16:14:33

If you are voting for Mitt because you think he is the only person that can beat Obama. Then you are voting out of fear. Fear that Obama will destroy our economy, constitution whatever it may be. But if you vote for Mitt because you believe his policies are within acceptable parameters of what you believe to be a good president. Then you are not voting for him out of fear.

But "fear" is not the right way to put it. "Dread" would be a better way to put it. Furthermore, Mitt Romney's faith respects God and God's law, though I would certainly disagree with some of their understandings thereof. Barack Obama, according to his actions, hates God, because he seems to go out of his way to do things that displease God.

So yes, voting for Mitt Romney for DREAD of Obama is a perfectly Christian thing to do, and I most certainly shall do it.

Proverbs 27:12: "A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished." Obama is evil, and only the simple (ignorant) will vote for him.

Thats a great verse, but I take it as a measure in which to avoid evil. To avoid evil by choosing another evil is still making an evil choice though. Consider that idea that many are voting for Mitt not because they know anything about Mitt but because they know the horrific nature of Obama. In this they have not resolved whether Mitt is an ok candidate or not and have allowed fear to control their choices.

    Matthew 10:28
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

There is nothing "fearful," and certainly nothing "un-Christian," about voting out of office a man who stands for very un-Christian things.

Obama is the most pro-abortion president we've ever had, and his HHS mandate shows his utter contempt for religious freedom.

This is on top of the fact that he's completely out of touch with regard to the economy. He said "the private sector is doing fine" the other day. Just with that statement alone, he's proven himself totally undeserving of a second term.

A private-sector CEO with his sort of track record would have been fired by now.

I totally agree that Obama should not be in office. The basis of my argument though is that to vote against Obama is literally a vote made out of fear of what Obama might do if he was to be elected. Therefore it is unChristian to vote against Obama. The proper thing to do is to for someone else rather than against Obama.

Obama has already proven he is wicked as wicked can be. He cares more about himself and his friends. So now we need to try the next president. Someday (if God permits) we might get an honest president who will listen to the American People.

The most amazing miracle that God has performed is the creation of the human brain. He has seen fit to bless me with one...to not use it is an insult to my maker.

While Mitt was not my first choice, he is CERTAINLY a better candidate than Obama. And I think that most who are saying "anybody but Obama" realize that ANY of the candidates from the GOP primaries would have been a better choice.

72,544 West Virginia Democrats picked a Texas PRISON CONVICT over Obama .... so don't talk to me about fear.
