That statement is very true. Thomas Jefferson also said, “The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” But my favorite quote from Jefferson is, “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” Jefferson and many others from that period of time were very wise. It is truly a shame our government, corporations, and the very rich are fighting so hard to take away what those wise men created. But I think this sums it up, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
George Santayana, The Life of Reason, Volume 1, 1905
if he gets elected, we will still do what is our rightful obligation and duty, since obviously the COngress and Senate will not defend the COnstitution it will be we THE PEOPLES DUTY to DEFEND IT AGAINST DOMESTIC ENEMIES
A government in which a single ruler is vested with absolute power. The office, authority, or jurisdiction of an absolute ruler. Absolute power, especially when exercised unjustly or cruelly: "I have sworn . . . eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man" (Thomas Jefferson). Use of absolute power. A tyrannical act. Extreme harshness or severity; rigor.
While the statement is true, there comes a point where one must live to fight another day. To rectify our issues as a nation, the only sound course of action is to let the entitled learn there is no free lunch. That happens by letting the system collapse under its own weight. The pain will be severe, but the remedy will be quick.
There is only one major difference between Jefferson's revolution and the one that needs to happen now: finding a voice has never been easier.
The internet is the first truly unlimited method of mass communication. It is up to us to keep the flow of knowledge and information available, to not allow censorship (which our/every government would implement) to take place.
Keep the opinions flowing and the the thoughts going - don't allow them to stop your opinion, and in the same breath do not attempt to stop theirs - truth will prevail. We can move the world with our collective voices as soon as we realize our similarities have always FAR exceeded our differences.
It's an exciting time to be alive: keep talking, blogging, writing, speaking - for all thoughts and words lead to Action and it is Action that changes the world. Jefferson is an excellent example of conscience and consciousness - he was awake and aware and took part of a Revolution he knew was necessary. ....I wonder who this generation's Jefferson will be.
“Capital must protect itself in every possible manner by combination and legislation. Debts must be collected, bonds and mortgages must be foreclosed as rapidly as possible. When, through a process of law, the common people lose their homes they will become more docile and more easily governed through the influence of the strong arm of government, applied by a central power of wealth under control of leading financiers. This truth is well known among our principal men now engaged in forming an imperialism of Capital to govern the world. By dividing the voters through the political party system, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting over questions of no importance. Thus by discreet action we can secure for ourselves what has been so well planned and so successfully accomplished.”

It has been essentially drummed into them, that everyone thinks as they do. A progressive and or liberal does not understand why anyone would disagree with what they have been spoon fed. The "intellectuals" have successfully created an ignorant segment of the population that is vehement in their ignorance.
I find the majority who block here on SodaHead refer to themselves [falsely] as Conservatives. They don't like to hear anything that their "party" hasn't told them first. The Liberals just get mad when they're somehow offended. But, in summary, anyone who blocks someone's speech for any reason is, in my opinion, a weak person who can't handle opposition or confrontation.
We have a screwed up two-"party" system that does not represent over half of the American public. There are loads of Conservatives who are not represented by the Republican Party & loads of Liberals who are not represented by the Democratic Party. The two "parties" are both so far right that boatloads of people are simply sitting outside of each without a genuine voice. We either need more parties or we need to get rid of them altogether & allow people to stand on their positions & values, in my opinion.
That is an option, or if people would just utilize their votes to show their displeasure with being unrepresented, those voices might once again be heard. I and many who I converse with tried using our wealth to change local politics, state politics, etc. While we were successful in the initial years, the power of corruption once again proved it is stronger than the voices in an incumbent's ear. So now the only political remedy I advocate is anti-incumbent strategies. No elected official should serve more than one term. That breaks the stagnation of leadership positions in both state and federal representation. We have politicians who remain in elected office that no longer live in the district they are representing and haven't in some cases for 20 years. So every ballot I cast from now until this nation fails, which it will soon, if you currently hold office, you no longer gain my vote, and your party affiliation does not matter.
How? How does one use his/her vote to show displeasure at being unrepresented other than to simply not vote?? There is no one representing them to vote for. I agree. American politics is unbelievably corrupt & getting more so every year. It's frightening. We, The People are losing our liberties faster & faster all the time.
Hrmm. To a point, I do agree with you about incumbents. However, I would submit that a bunch of newbies might just make a bigger mess out of things... & might be more easily bought-off by lobbyists. I could be wrong... maybe they'd be more difficult to be bought-off, I don't know. It's hard to say. But a bunch of idealists on Capitol Hill would certainly not be the worst thing in the world... it is what we had at the beginning, after all.
Maybe you're right. I guess it doesn't seem as if there is any other way to change the status quo.
No the newbies do not have the understanding of the processes, therefore cannot do enough damage especially 2 years in the house, turning that every two years would send a shockwave through DC.
You know... I've been thinking about this incumbent thing since you first brought it up. I suppose it's pretty much what I've been preaching too: Fire them all & put in some fresh, young, idealistic blood. But really... keeping that attitude through the following electoral cycles is actually the best idea I've heard in a very long time.
Keep spreading that message. It's a hell of a good one.
