You aren't allowed to say negro (or ni**er), they blur it out on tv, yet people can say cracker and stuff without consequences. No I don't think that people should say nigger or anything I just was wondering what you thought. This is not ment to be a black vs. white or anything racist.

Being called a cracker would in no way offend me. Being called the n word is offensive because of the history behind the word.

I have read that a lot of people don't find the word offensive because it refers to the saltine. Maybe the word itself is not racist but a lot of the times the meaning/feeling behind it is racist.

I consider it racist. Maybe it does not have the history of the "N word" but that does not make it any less offensive. It's a derogatory slur aimed at a person referring to the color of their skin.

yes cracker is offensive, but people say it because it has an actual meaning. N***** I would guess would hurt more than cracker. Anyway, blacks have more bad words we have been called before, so it hurts more. All whites have is cracker. So if the blacks can take multiple words, the whites can take cracker.

You need to get your K-12 diploma or GED before you can go to the next step, but these folks again are lazy and are still looking for that free obama money. This is exactly why our government needs to be as small as possible forcing those who are able to work to get off their asses and become a positive force for themselves, their family and their environment. There is nothing more satisfying then bringing home the bacon without foodstamps. Today's youth unfortunately want's it now and wants more. I know of a social worker who was a staunch democrat througout her college years and beyond, voting the party ticket regardless of their record. As the years went by she finally had to admit to herself that her party was nothing but a deceitful band of thugs that only care about the power they hold. She came to this conclusion because of the home cases she dealt with where she physically went to low income homes to check on the welfare of children who were on state assistance. Almost every home visit she would see a huge flat screen TV with a couple of gaming systems, satellite TV, usually a nice car in the driveway or parking area, expensive clothes and jewelry, gold teeth, boom boxes, stacks of CD's and DVD's just to name a few of the luxuries she would see. It finally took its toll when there would be little or no food, no proper hygiene items, lack of supervision at home and school. This is just the tip of the iceberg and she quit her job to become a conservative pollster and an advocate for out of control spending by Washington Bureaucrats. We desperately need to fix OUR government. We are the governing body of this country. We hold the power, we just need to take it back and the only way to do this is vote vote vote. "For the People by the People."

Calling someone Cracker is not anywhere near as offensive as the other word. In Florida we actually have a place called "Cracker Country" that is set up historically to show the way original pioneers to Florida ("Crackers") lived. If you don't believe me, here is the link: http://www.crackercountry.org/

I disagree. I've been called this on several occasions for no reason other than being white in a black neighborhood, and the effect it has, when used in a derogatory way, is quite painful, intimidating, and alarming.

No one says that a Black country needs multiCULTuralism.

No one says that an Asian country needs multiCULTuralism.

Yet in ALL & ONLY White countries, anti-Whites posing as “anti-racists” demand those countries stop being White and become “multicultural”. This is genocide – the targeted destruction of a group.

Only an ignoramus would claim that the word cracker is more offensive than the n-word. One race was enslaved, lynched and then regularly denied personhood until the late 50's. There's much hate behind the n-word.

Stop watching Faux news and read a few history books. The same fools that claim that so-called 'reverse-racism' is a huge issue would agree that cracker is just as bad or worse.

Posts like this bring out the true racists.

It does seem odd somewhat that other slurs are allowed to air as part a script, etc, but not that. I've also always found it vastly ironic that many blacks use the word among themselves to slur or banter about as if it were nothing.

The word should not be used anymore by anyone. We need to leave it in the history. Not to forget it but to keep it in context. Remind us of what struggles we have come thru. We were called that to degrade and humiliate our people, I believe we have over come that. We should have at least but I know the word is still being used and by our own people, which it shouldn't be okay even for us.

Institutionalized bigotry is much more serious than personal bigotry. Institutionalized bigotry is when those in power are predominantly of one group, and use their power to keep another group down. In the U.S., those in power are predominantly caucasian, male, Christian, heterosexual and able-bodied. Those who do not belong to all of those groups face the possibility of institutionalized bigotry.

What can we do about this as individuals? Well, we can stop personal bigotry against those groups. That means using language that does not offend or denigrate those groups, or an individual who belongs to one of those groups. If we stop personal bigotry, and don't tolerate personal bigotry from others, we will eventually erode instutionalized bigotry.

It isn't nice, considerate, respectful or decent for people to use derogatory names towards caucasian, male, Christian, heterosexual or able-bodied people, and I believe we should all avoid it, but it does not in any way contribute to institutionalized bigotry or toward keeping those people down (because they aren't down to begin with).

It's a long explanation, but that is why I believe it's far more harmful to use "racist" language when referring to minority groups than it is when referring to the majority groups.
