Is this o.k.

My friend recently went to Hawaii. Her family was approached about going on a tour around the Island. They paid the money and went on the tour. It turns out the tour was sponsored by the Mormon Church and near the end of the tour they were brought to the Mormon Temple for a guided walk around the grounds. My friend's family is Christian but not Mormon. Her dad was really angry about it.

Is it o.k. to offer a tour, then bring people to a church/temple w/o telling them that the tour is religiously affiliated?

    Frickin' Mormons.

I still don't understand how they got all the way over there on their bikes.
People should probably know that the Mormon church pretty much owns Hawaii.Bastards.

this is the problem with some people - fanatics! If you have to trick someone to tell them about ur religion, then there is a big problem!

Been there, done that, Mormons are upfront, tour is cheap, you see at least 8 different sites on a bus, really nice and accomodating, they also have stops for restroom breaks (which is important), the grounds are beautiful(lots of flowers), and they drop you off where it's convenient to you (just in case you have tourist shopping to do), Mormonism is christianity, all in all your friend has no complaints, just likes to bitch...sorry but it's true....

It wasn't free but with the prices in Hawaii it was a bargain...if something is a good deal I don't care if Hare Krishnas provide it...won't affect me in the least..plus you get to see girls with dots on their forehead...a deal is a deal no matter who provides it....I'm cheap, a bargain is a bargain :)

Actually they weren't up front until after my friend and her family got on the tram and they started heading to the temple. The brochure was described as "city tour" not a tour of the temple and grounds...and according to her they talked about their religion the whole time. Her family looked around quickly and got back on the tram before the tour was done. Some people believe that their faith is personal and they don't feel the need to discuss "what god means to them" on a tour (which was done). They were polite, but her father told them they should tell people that the tour is a visit to the temple (specifically) and not "the city".

It appears you are changing the story because you have been called out on this. Typical of a bigot, when facts don't back you up, change the "facts".

I went on that same tour and they clearly stated multiple times that the tour was sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter DAy Saints. Maybe you were not paying attention... And I don't understand why the dad was so mad Mormons ARE Christians. Besides the Mormon Temples are very beautiful... And they do not try to convert every person they see. They are truly kind people.

Other Christians don't associate Mormons with the Christian religion because Mormons believe that God was as we are now and that we will someday be as he is now. In other words, they think we'll become Gods at some point in our afterlife.

Well then apparently you don't know the religion very well. It's what seperates Mormons from other Christians accepting them as a Christian denomination.

So does that mean all the other Christians religions are wrong or that Mormons are right? or visa versa? You make it sound that all the other religions disagree with Mormons that the Mormons must be wrong, yet those other religions can't even agree with each other on different doctrine. Both "Christians" and "Mormons" believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior but differ on what is in the after life. Seems like both are Christians to me. How do you know one way is more correct that the other way. When Christ came to earth he did not teach the known doctrine of the day, or the man's version of religion. I would rather go to God to find out what is right, and then I would not have to rely on what man's wisdom states and I would not feel the need to diminish other's beliefs like you have.

False advertising. Tour should have mentioned something about where the tour would end beforehand. Christians often do the same thing in the name of God, and I'm a Christian. I'd never trick anyone into anything. It's evil. false advertising tour mentioned tour christians god christian trick evil

I don't mind going for the tour around the Temple. Mormon Temples are actually fairly neat to look at, they have interesting structures. However I wouldn't want them to start preaching the gospel to me. If I just went thought to look and then they took me back, id be fine with that.

On a side note, I don't see why the dad would be angry. Mormons are Christians. So he is now hating his own kind, does this fall back as Christians hating other Christians, religions hating other religions?

Mormon temples are beautiful, and I would love to see the interior of one. I understand the hangups about different religions, provided you believe in one, but a different viewpoint never hurt anyone. It was sort of sleazy to make them pay for a tour, but honestly, it didn't really hurt anyone in the long run. I think your friends dad may be taking the whole thing a little too seriously, but then again, my father is Christian, and he nearly had an anuerism when I was intrigued by the architecture of the Mormon temple in San Diego, and proceeded to ask the women outside about it.

Haha. It was really cool. :) I never thought I'd see the inside of the Mormon Temple... Funny, considering I live in Mormon Capital, USA... AKA Salt Lake City, UT. I can see all four Mormon temples in the salt lake county from my bedroom window. The Draper Temple is the one I went to. My dad made some of hte doors for it. I just wish I could've taken pictures...

county bedroom window draper temple dad hte doors couldve pictures

That's the tub thing where they do the baptisms for the dead in the draper temple. Search "Mormon temple draper UT" has some pics of the inside in it.

It's a hard balance to strike... depends on what exactly the paid for the tour. If it was a big ass discount over the concierge recommendation, I'm not sure I see a problem with have a sponsored bit of the tour at the end.
Its like those vacations or give-aways to listen to a time-share presentation.
But then again, a religious add-on can effect your faith and path to salvation (theoretically).... It's a tough call.

In the end I wouldn't be pissed off if I got a discount, if I paid full price I'd say 'tour's over, take me back to my hotel'.

I think he assumes I am making the story up because I am anti prop 8, and the Mormons spent a lot of time and effort trying to pass the legislation in CA... but it's a stupid assumption and I dont need to make up lies. I don't see what is so hard to believe about it...since it DID happen to a good friend of mine when she went to Hawaii on her xmas vacation.
