Is There Any Reason To Believe Obama Is Not a Marxist?

Is There Any Reason To Believe That
Barack Obama Is NOT a Marxist?

It has been charged many times, and in may forums, that Barack Obama is, or may be, a marxist/socialist/communist, a charge that is vehemently denied by most on the left. I thought it might be interesting to take a look at his background and the influences he was under from his earliest years and then pose the question - is there any reason to believe that he is Not a Marxist?

I. Barack Obama’s Mother - Stanley Ann Dunham, Described by Friends as a “Fellow Traveler.”

During Obama's campaign for the 2008 presidential election he portrayed his mother as a conservative girl from Kansas; however in reality she was a radical leftist and cultural Marxist. She lived in the Seattle area; spending her teenage years in Seattle coffee shops with other young radical leftists. Obama claims his mother's family were conservative Methodists or Baptists from Kansas. However his mother's parents were members of a left-wing Unitarian church near Seattle. The church located in Bellevue, Washington was nicknamed "the little red church," because of it's communist leanings.

The school Ann attended, Mercer Island High School , was a hotbed of pro-Marxist radical teachers. John Stenhouse, board member, told the House Un-American Activities Subcommittee that he had been a member of the Communist Party USA and this school has a number of Marxists on it's staff. Two teachers at this school, Val Foubert and Jim Wichterman, both Frankfurt School style Marxists, taught a critical theory curriculum to students which included; rejection of societal norms, attacks on Christianity, the traditional family, and assigned readings by Karl Marx. The hallway between Foubert's and Wichterman classrooms was some times called "anarchy ally."

Dunham has been described by her friends as "a fellow traveler..." meaning a communist sympathizer. In an interview, Barack Obama referred to his mother as "the dominant figure in my formative years... The values she taught me continue to be my touchstone when it comes to how I go about the world of politics."

Note: It is highly likely that those “touchstone values” Stanley Ann Dunham taught the young Barry Obama were straight out of Marxist ideology.

(Note: the story of Stanley Ann Dunham being described as a “fellow traveler” is available in a number of places on the internet, other than the one I have provided.)

II. Barack Obama, Sr., President Obama’s Father, Was a Self-Avowed Marxist

As a Nairobi bureaucrat, Barack Hussein Obama Sr. advised the pro-Western Kenyan government there to "redistribute" income through higher taxes. He also demonized corporations and called for massive government "investment" in social programs.

Writing in a 1965 scholarly paper, Obama's late father slammed the administration of then-President Jomo Kenyatta for moving the Third World country away from socialism toward capitalism. He chafed at the idea of relying on private investors — who earn "dividends" on their venture capital — to develop the country's fledgling economy.

"What is more important is to find means by which we can redistribute our economic gains to the benefit of all," said the senior Obama, a Harvard-educated economist. "This is the government's obligation." The "means" he had in mind were confiscatory taxes on a scale that redefines the term "progressive taxation."

"Theoretically," he wrote, "there is nothing that can stop the government from taxing 100% of income so long as the people get benefits from the government commensurate with their income which is taxed." Therefore, he added, "I do not see why the government cannot tax those who have more and syphon some of these revenues into savings which can be utilized in investment for future development."

Note: Though it may be pointed out that Obama’s father had little contact with him, therefore little influence, recall that Obama entitled his first book “Dreams From My Father,” and that the young Stanley Ann Dunham was attracted to and married him while she was an impressionable student in Hawaii, even more evidence of her Marxist leanings. Additionally, there is little doubt that Barack Obama was familiar with his father’s 1965 paper calling for re-distributive justice in Kenya back in 1965, much as Obama himself would do in America over forty years later.

III. Frank Marshall Davis, Named by Obama as His “Mentor,” Was a Card-Carrying Member of the Communist Party U.S.A.

In his biography of Barack Obama, David Mendell writes about Obama's life as a "secret smoker" and how he "went to great lengths to conceal the habit." But what about Obama's secret political life? It turns out that Obama's childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communist.

In his books, Obama admits attending "socialist conferences" and coming into contact with Marxist literature. But he ridicules the charge of being a "hard-core academic Marxist," which was made by his colorful and outspoken 2004 U.S. Senate opponent, Republican Alan Keyes.

However, through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his "poetry" and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just "Frank."

The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What's more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations.

In Dreams From My Father, Obama recounts the following advice given him by “Frank”:
“. . . Understand something, boy. You’re not going to college to get educated. You’re gong there to get trained. They’ll train you to want what you don’t need. They’ll train you to manipulate words so they don’t mean anything anymore. They’ll train you to forget what it is that you already know. They’ll train you so good, you’ll start believing what they tell you about equal opportunity and the American way and all that sh-t. ... Until you want to actually want to start running things, and then they’ll yank on your chain and let you know that you may be a well-trained, well-paid n----r, but you’re a n----r just the same.” Barack Obama, Dreams From My Father, p. 97.

IV. Obama Was Trained as a “Community Organizer” at a School Founded by The Radical Socialist Saul Alinsky.

The most significant part of Barack Obama’s education, according to Obama himself, was not at Columbia University or Harvard Law School, but the years he spent being trained in the Saul Alinsky system for community organizing and then practicing what he learned.

All practicing leftists have been influenced by Saul Alinsky, author of Rules for Radicals; the essential primer for all good America hating radicals. Written by the great granddaddy of all community organizers, Alinsky’s book lays out the tactics to be employed in creating a revolution.

Alinsky style organizers are not concerned members of the community who pressure city hall into putting in a new stoplight. For the Alinskyite, the actual issue is of no consequence. The organizer doesn’t care about the community. The agenda is to gin up a revolt which gives the organizer power. As Alinsky put it: “You want to cause fear, confusion and retreat in the enemy, i.e. 'the Haves'.” (Alinsky, Saul D. Rules for Radicals: A Pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals. Toronto: Random House, 1971. Pg. 127).

As is always the case with socialism, Alinsky’s programs never succeed. Barack Obama’s lack of success as a community organizer is what motivated him to pursue a law degree. By all accounts, Barack Obama was a model Alinsky student; evidently results are not considered in the grading process. In actual practice, the results of Obama’s agitating were less than spectacular.

Obama had the benefit of receiving his training from disciples who had studied with Alinsky himself; he went on to train hundreds of others in Alinskyism. Barack Obama has said that his Alinsky training was the best education of his life. A former fellow organizer told the New Republic that Obama was the “undisputed master” of agitation. (Freddoso, David. The Case Against Barack Obama: The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media’s Favorite Candidate. Washington, DC: Regnery, 2008).

What distinguished Alinsky from your run-of-the-mill revolutionary is Alinsky’s preference to wreck the system from within the existing order rather than resort to violence; not that violence out of the question, however. Alinsky was a big believer in the end justifying the means.

It cannot be too greatly stressed: Barack Obama has said that his (radical socialist) Alinsky training was the best education of his life. A former fellow organizer told the New Republic that Obama was the “undisputed master” of agitation. It is also noteworthy that Alinsky actaully dedicated his book, "Rules for Radicals", to Lucifer, the Devil!

Note: A pair of radical Columbia University sociology professors were inspired by the Alinsky method to write a piece in “The Nation” in 1965 which came to be known by their names - the Cloward-Piven strategy. The purpose of the Cloward-Piven strategy is to overburden the social welfare system to the point of breaking and hasten the breakdown of the capitalist system. The CP strategy has been applied by ACORN and other welfare right’s organizations, with not only the intent to obtain “benefits” for their members, but also to hasten the decline of the American free-market system. It is noteworthy that the husband-wife team of Cloward and Piven were teaching at Columbia when Barack Obama attended the university, but as his transcripts are under lock and key we don't know whether he took courses from either of them.

V. Obama Spent Two Decades Soaking Up Marxist-Inspired Black Liberation Theology as Espoused by Jeremiah Wright.

Much has been made of the anti-American and racist rants of Barack Obama’s “pastor” for twenty years, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. However, the more troubling aspect of those twenty years is the fact that Wright’s sermons came directly from the Marxist-influenced “Black Liberation Theology” of James Cone.

Black Liberation Theology is the basis for former Pastor Jeremiah Wright’s anti-American sermons at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago – a church attended by Sen. Barack Obama and his wife Michelle for more than 20 years. Why is this important? Because Wright served as Obama’s pastor for more than 20 years as well as his mentor and spiritual advisor. It is unlikely that a person can sit in a pew of a church for 20 years and not understand or disagree with the ideology being promoted every week in Sunday sermons and in published materials distributed by a church.

What is Wright’s theological viewpoint and where did it come from?

The Trinity United Church of Christ web site provides ample evidence and Wright’s own sermons show clearly that Black Liberation Theology is the foundational philosophy of this church and its leadership. The church has a Black Values System that each member must agree to. It is totally Afrocentric.

Black Liberation Theology is the creation of Professor James Cone, who currently serves at New York’s Union Theological Seminary. In 1969, Cone wrote Black Theology and Black Power, which has become required reading at Trinity. In it, Cone observed: “When we look at what whiteness has done to the minds of men in this country, we can see clearly what the New Testament meant when it spoke of the principalities and powers.”
Cone has also written:

“... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.”

Professor Cone’s Black Liberation Theology is a mixture of Marxism and Afrocentric thinking. According to Cone, “Together, black religion and Marxist philosophy may show us the way to build a completely new society.” Capitalism is economic slavery imposed upon black Americans by whites.

Cone has openly admitted that Pastor Wright “is really the one who took it [his philosophy] from my books and brought it to the church.” This Black Liberation Theology was adopted by Trinity 10 years before Sen. Obama and his family joined it in 1991. Every person who joins Trinity goes through a new member class, where he is taught Black Liberation Theology.

VI. When Obama Decided to Go Into Politics, He Sought and Obtained the Endorsement of the “New Party,” a Party Made Up Largely of Socialists and Communists.

“According to New Ground, the newspaper of the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), Obama appeared at the New Party’s summer 1995 meeting to seek their endorsement in his state Senate race. The New Party, the newsletter states, contained a heavy contingent of DSA members and also members of the Committee of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, a splinter group that broke away from the Communist Party USA after the fall of its financial and ideological patron, the Soviet Union.

Obama obtained the New Party endorsement, but as New Ground states, it came with a price: Once approved, candidates must sign a contract with the NP. The contract mandates that they must have a visible and active relationship with the NP.

Coincidentally, Obama’s predecessor in the Illinois senate seat which he filled, Alice Palmer, was also a Communist, and she endorsed Barack Obama as her replacement. In 1986, Ms. Palmer attended the 27th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, as a journalist with the Black Press Institute. Upon her return, she wrote in glowing terms about the future of the USSR, while criticizing the US by comparison:

The Soviets plan to provide people with higher wages and better
education, health and transportation, while we in our country are
hearing that cutbacks are necessary in all of these areas.

David Fredoso, The Case Against Barack Obama, (Regnery, Wash., D.C., 2008) pp. 128-9

Conclusion: Some on the left might claim that I have indulged in “guilt by association,” but there is far more than just “association” when every single influence over Barack Obama’s life has come from a leftwing, Marxist perspective. If he does indeed have the traditional American belief in private property and free-enterprise, the capitalist system, just when did he pick it up, who taught it to him? Certainly not his mother, his father, his mentor Frank Marshall Davis, Saul Alinsky, or his pastor Jeremiah Wright, his closest associates and mentors from his earliest days - they were, each and every one of them, Marxists!

What reason is there to believe that Barack Obama himself is not also a Marxist?

One thing for curtain Obama is a piece of work. I would say that he is more facist then Marxist because he tends to side with the bankers. But during the last 3 years there seems to have been a racial war directed at the whites.

The only difference between Marxism and Fascism (and Mussolini, the founder of the Fascisti in Italy was a lifelong Marxist!) is that with Marxism the government would own the banks and the means of production, while with fascism the government would control them, as you say, by being "in bed with them" and heavily regulating them.

I don't care too much for ideological labels, but I know that one man can steal what another man has earned, by any number of means...gambling, selling snake oil, buying votes with public money or raising taxes.

I don't believe that any of these things are right, or lawful, and certain that none can serve the general welfare!!

Fascism is just a variant of Marxism where instead of owning the means of production the government strictly regulates it. Benito Mussolini, leader of Fascist Italy, was a life-long socialist and Marxist himself.
