Is the US doomed to crumble or can we make a comeback?

All depends on the direction of the next election. An Øbama win spells certain doom.

The real debt numbers (include SS, Medicares, etc) are so large, there is no way back.

It is possible, but to get started, we have to go in the RIGHT direction, more debt is NOT the right direction.

It will depend on the Nov 2012 election. If The Zero gets a second term, nothing will stop him from completing the destruction of the economy he began in his first term. It would take decades to recover from his damage, but we will not have the luxury of decades because of competition from the Chinese.

Downhill slide will continue for so long as we have an Anti-American propaganda network and a dozen media blowhards spreading hate and distrust so openly as to attract the great number of undereducated and borderline paranoids. These outlets have been very effective in turning this portion of the population against their Government, which makes the whole of the Republic vulnerable to collapse. The Saudi Royal Family has a wide river of money flowing to fund this project, here and around the world. So far, they are winning their expressed intent to destroy all western cultures and replace them with Islamic religious law and rules. So, what to do? Any suggestions?

Who knows? I'm iffy about Obama, conservatives want to turn the US in a theocracy, and Ron Paul (good ol' Libertarian) is okay with exploitations and bigotry as long as it is at state level. so, look out canada, here I come! (jk...maybe)

Of course it all depends on who wins the presidency but yes, there is a lot of things that can be done and should have been done..we need a very tight budget and big time spending cuts..Ppl that over spend and have champagne taste with a beer pocket need to grow up..get back to basics. Immigration has to be controlled one way or another..we cannot afford illegals anymore...

Taxes are the biggest one. Union organized education is another.

That means every time a foreign student comes here to one of our top universities, and is somewhere close to being a potential genius, we work hard keep them, not let them go start a company elsewhere.

With the right leadership and letting the free market do its thing.

Well after seeing too many large companies (Banks, Auto comps, Mortgage Cos and oil companies) take too many risks through bad investments, advice and with safety. Im not sure we can afford anymore of the careless and wanton activity that was displayed in the last decade.

I think people will take better care before they invest.

I will never give up on this country. We will prevail. People and institutions have put us in this position and it will be people and institutions that get us out.
