Is the U.S. Constitution still relevant today?

Has the world really changed so much that we no longer need the Constitution? Or do we need to make major changes to it? Barack Obama thinks the Constitution contains a major flaw because it does not provide for the redistribution of wealth. Some think we should repeal the 2nd Amendment and outlaw all private ownership of firearms. The framers of the Constitution wrote it in such a way as to limit the powers of the government and protect the citizens from government abuses. But is that an outdated concept in today's world? Can we now trust the government enough that we don't need to be protected from it? Is the Constitution a dusty old document that is no longer relevant in today's world? What do you think?

IF AMERICANS BELIEVE THE HIGHEST LAWS OF THE LAND ARE NOT RELEVENT THEN THE GOD OF WAR IS, AND THEN HE WILL COME TO TAKE HIS REVENGE ON THOSE HE KNOWS HAVE A LIFE EXPECTENCY OF THE DEAD IN CHRIST! STOP THE INSANITY BEFORE THE LORD OUR GOD STOPS IT FOR YOU OBAMA! YOU THE USURPER HAVE NOT THE POWER YOU BELIEVE YOURSELF TO HAVE! REAL POWER HAS YET TO BE USED, AND YOU ARE INSUFFICENT AND UNWORTHY!

GOD is never a relevant answer to any political question so PEOPLE NEED TO NOT ANSWER WITH ANYTHING PERTAINING TO GOD. Jeez. And yes it is still relevant today and does its job. the framers made the constitution vague in certain parts so that the constitution will be relevant in years to come.

the constitution is a relevant and powerful document that helps guide our courts and political processes in positive directions. that being said i have never heard more idiotic slurs as those posted prior. "godless" "gun for more than self defense" "chistian nature of the document" "sinful human nature". i don't use the word lightly, but you are all idiots and have little to no grasp on the litterateur or reality.

Of course we need the Constitution. The only people who would be unconfortable with it are usually immoral and Godless. People who only see the gray, not black or white.

Yes, and the people who vigorously strive to maintain that mythical "separation of church and state" seem to totally ignore the Christian nature of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

I think the biggest problem there is that so many people feel that the Contstitution is such an old document that it is no longer relevant. That's where they are badly mistaken. The Constitution is timeless. It will always apply to any American citizen and the ideas and principles set forth in the Constitution are so basic they will always be relevant to anyone and everyone at any time in history.

I'm with you on this one, Rick. I homeschool my son and we are just digging in to the Constitution. The three branches of government. Basic knowledge which will be so important to him as a young man. Knowledge is power.

Unbelievable that it is but the foresight of the founding fathers was great. Of course it doesn't fit Socialism at all so Obama needs to tear it apart for the a legal Communist takeover.

Absolutely. The founding fathers were no dummies. They were savvy to the deceptive ways of politicians. That's why there were so many safeguards built into the Constitution.

The Constitution is probably one of the most important documents in the United States' history. It assured the people that there would not be a monarchy, tyranny, or any other form of bad government in the US. Just read the Preamble and you'll know why the Constitution is so important. The whole purpose of government is to make sure everyone is acting the way they should and to put a country under control. We would not need such a complicated government if it weren't for man's sinful nature. Man's sinful nature has not changed since the founding of America. We do not need to change the Constitution. It is just as relevant as it ever was! Sure we need to make small amendments here and there, but we do not need to rewrite the whole thing! sinful nature changed founding america change constitution relevant amendments rewrite

Yo Badger, you don't seem to understand the reason for the 2nd Amendment... the reason the constitution believes we have the right ot bear arms is to protect us from THE GOVERNMENT! and if you have an army coming at you, you'd better have guns that are suitable for more than mere self defence.
